This property, which dates back to 1845 and was completely renovated in 2012, is located in the interior of the island of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Santa Lucia de Tirajana. It is comprised of two houses completely independent from each other, a century-old house and a rural porch with more than 100 years old, in addition to having completely private parking and swimming pool. The caves of the Guanches shelter it from any hint of civilization. It is the perfect place for those who love silence. One of the major attractions of this beautiful place is the contrasts of the vegetation and the arid zones that it contains. The olive tree is characteristic of the property to which the house belongs, and the nearest village, Saint Lucia, is located 5 kilometers away. This picturesque town of Gran Canaria has craftsmen dedicated to various disciplines (pottery, looms, palm ...) and an agricultural market every Sunday of the week, and can buy fresh produce directly from those who till the land. In addition to the countless birds that fly over the area with its peculiar songs, the Tirajana basin, southwest of the island, provides a bright sun for practically all the year.

Other things to note

It is practically indispensable to have a vehicle and driving license to be able to access the house and / or move from it to other parts of the Island, since it is only possible by road. In addition, another positive aspect of the place is the invitation that makes the guests of this house to go hiking and walking in the area. During spring it is almost essential to let the ear guide you to the ravine, which probably runs water during those dates.

This is the perfect place to relax. Very tastefully renovated old building, great stunning view and it has everything you need to enjoy Gran Canaria. If you don't like massive hotels and being with thousands of other tourists this is the place to be. The location right in the middle of the island is ideal for exploring every single corner. As a rule of thumb: where ever you want to go consider a little more than one hour and you are there (GC606 is a must drive if you are not completely new to driving). Also Santa Lucia has good places to eat, like the Restaurant Mirador, great view, great food and very good service. The fish-and-seafood soup is outstanding! There is the already mentioned cats and the hens are there as well and they appreciate to be treated well. The hens are "producing" 1.7 eggs/day. One hint regarding the road, do not use Apple-Maps to navigate there you will be fooled. There is a road shown in Apple maps which does not exist and if it would be there it would be a significant shortcut. Use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps, they get it right. I feel a rental car is a must. If you want to be prepared for making coffee: there is no standard machine, so don't buy filters in advance, there is a french press (bodum) device, no filters needed. The BBQ works well, don't make the mistake to place the meat near the BBQ and leave to get something else, the cats are very fast... :-) one minute is sufficient for them. The pool is not suitable for Olympic-training but it is a perfect refreshment, you can enjoy the view from the pool and with a drink the sight is even better. Like everywhere on this island there is small mosquitos and if you are prone to be bit prepare for it and bring some repellent. Bed linen and towels are provided, plenty. Again a perfect place, quiet, clean scenic and relaxing. Octavio is a great host, very responsive and helpful. I would recommend to stay here any time again.

Octavios place was perfect for a few days relaxing in the sun. The house does exactly what is says on the tin - perfectly clean and functional little house for 2. The house: The bed is comfy, the air con works well, and it's a good size. Everything you could need. Garden: The outside space is great, with 2 sun loungers near the pool area, a cute table near the house which is sunny for breakfast and a BBQ and outside dining space. There are chickens living in a pen in the garden, and you get to help yourself to eggs each morning, which were delicious! Just worth noting that the gardener was around doing work on the land and in the garden, and tending to the chickens, so if you are looking for complete privacy this might not be for you. Location: The house is set in the mountains of Gran Canaria, in quite a remote area. We found it quite tricky to find, so would recommend arranging to meet with whoever is checking you in at the Disa petrol station on the main GC65 road just through Santa Lucia to avoid getting lost, paticularly given some of the local roads. I echo some of the other reviews - the roads are a bit daunting, so would definitely recommend a small car and driving to and from whilst it's still light! Having said this, if you're looking for somewhere quite rural, for lots of peace and quiet, this place is perfect. Thanks for a great stay!

Octavio's place is at the end of the track down to the village of La Montaña, just outside Santa Lucia. Situated in a valley with mountains and hills rising around is quite an impressive setting. We would highly recommend visiting the supermarket to stock up on supplies before arriving as the drive in and out take a while to get used to and the bigger supermarkets are about 45-55 minutes drive away. If you like walking/running you need to be comfortable linking trail sections by traversing mountain roads with no sidewalk. From what I experienced around the island this is not unusual. The front of the building catches the sun during the morning and early afternoon which is great for reading, relaxing and doing yoga.

We stayed at Octavio's house for 4 nights as a base to explore inland Gran Canaria. The house is really secluded, clean, warm (modern air conditioner) and comfortable. If you want to get away from tourists and typical Spanish resorts then you'll love this place. It's obviously right in the mountains and the little road is interesting, but we got used to driving it pretty quickly. Just take your time. La Montana is close to Santa Lucia, a pretty little village. We used the local shop a couple of times, who were really friendly even with our dodgy Spanish language skills. I'd recommend doing a good shop at a large super market (we used the Carrefour supermarket before arriving). The house is about 45min from Roque Nublo where you'll find awesome scenery and loads of hiking. You can actually see Pico de las Nieves from the road to the house. The kitchen has everything you need. There's a couple of great loungers near your private little pool (Jan water was a bit cold for us! :) ) It's the perfect place to explore the mountains, escape from reality for a bit and chill out. You get a free cat as part of the stay and the chickens lay tasty eggs every morning. Thanks!

We had the most wonderful holiday in years! This house offers endless privacy and peace where you can relax, read or just enjoy the environment. The perfect place to unwind and escape from your busy life. Octavio clearly has high standards and wants the guests to feel welcome. Everything is well thought through, all facilities are high quality and if you have questions or concerns, Octavio is easy to contact. It was a very welcome surprise that the WiFi is portable, so you can take it with you and navigate the Island without ever losing connection. The pool is really as clear and blue as in the pictures and very refreshing during the heatwave we had. We enjoyed the friendly but stubborn chickens and their free eggs. We made friends with the white cat with one blue and one green eye that came to visit us every day, we will really miss her. Without any doubts, we will come back here!

Octavio User Profile
