This former neighborhood of old Shikumen has been reincarnated into Shanghai’s glitzy and contemporary district featuring fine restaurants, upscale clubs and boutiques

A waterfront area in Shanghai that run along the Huang Pu River and is one of the most popular tourist spots. Being a former International Settlement area, the bund houses dozens of historical building and is famous for the Art Deco architectures.

The district comprises a neighborhood of labyrinthine alleyways off Taikang Road. Tianzifang is known for small craft stores, coffee shops, trendy art studios and narrow alleys. It has become a popular tourist destination in Shanghai, and an example of preservation of local Shikumen architecture.

Yongkang Lu, or Yongkang Road, is a small street, popular for its lively nightlife, hipster bars, casual cafes and restaurants. Some of the locals call this street “the new centre of the universe,” obviously, as the new “party-central” in Shanghai. During the day, it is nice and cozy with nice terraces to relax in the sun. Good prices, good vibes.

A residential area of Shanghai once designated for the French, the French Concession is famous for its cafes, tree-lined avenues, and tudor houses. [I'll be sending you my own recommended walking tour]

Two rooms are decorated well and roomy. It is great to have such a kitchen to cook even it is a little bit small. Sorry to say that the bathroom is impossible to wash my little baby. Yeah, the apartment is quite suitable for young travelers or couples with convenient transportation (only 5 minutes walk to the subway station) and the parking is just around the corner, RMB 80 for 24 hours.

Response from Shanghai Home:
Thanks for taking time to share your experience! Unfortunately, most Shanghai apartments (like Tokyo) have small bathrooms as a way to maximise space for a city of 22 mln people. Sorry it was hard to shower your little bub but if you are passing through Shanghai again, do let me know and I'll recommend a larger & more suitable apartment for you! Have hosted travelers with infants many times at the Peony Suite so that'll be good. :) Take care and all the best!

It was a very nice room and also very cheap for Shanghai. We had a great stay there. Also the check in and check out was very uncomplicated! I can only recommend Shanghai Home's place. But I also recommend everybody not from china, to print the check in documents, especially the address in chinese, as most of the taxi drivers don't speak english or even can read english addresses.

The check in instructions were well written, and location of the property was excellent. There must be 30 restaurants within 10 minutes walk, metro nearby and 5 or 6 massage parlours. The owner was very helpful and responsive. The kitchen was ill equipped and small. There was no microwave or toaster and the breakfast counter was only good for 2 people. There is very little work surface for food preparation. Luckily, Shanghai has excellent food delivery options. One bed was too hard for my wife and the other was too soft for my daughter. There are two metal framed chairs but no sofa. There is a TV with a streaming Internet box - the menu is in Chinese but it did have a few older movies. There are many older pirated DVDs in a drawer but we did not manage to get the DVD player working. In Chinese homes it is NOT customary to walk around bare foot or with socks. Instead, plastic or rubber 'slippers' will be worn the whole time - including while in the shower. Chinese homeowners will say it's because the floor is not clean. (I suspect the floors are dirty because they don't walk around in socks, ironically.) There are slippers provided in this apartment. They don't really fit western large feet. One of the neighbours above was using what sounded like an industrial sewing machine from 7:45am to mid or late afternoon. This was loud enough to wake us up and cause a nuisance. We did not complain at the time and do not know if this can be fixed. We are accustomed to staying in international branded service apartments when in Shanghai. We did not feel at home in this apartment and will return to using service apartments in the future. However, for the cost, this apartment, despite its problems is good value if you need two bedrooms.
