Just a 5-minute drive to downtown, this quiet, self-contained suite comfortably sleeps 2, with beautiful views, bathroom, kitchenette & Wi-fi access. A short walk to brunch, pubs & shops. The real highlight is hiking and mtnbiking out the front door.
Our suite is small, clean and cozy, located on the ground level of our home looking into the forest in our backyard. Plenty of squirrels, crows, and the occasional elk come through. Our street has one of the best views in town and our neighbourhood is far enough from downtown to really feel like you're a Rocky Mountain local, but close enough that you can enjoy some of the best dining in the Bow Valley.
We have done our best to create an inviting space for you. Photos of my travels and other art pieces grace the walls and the furniture is mid-century modern with a splash of Swedish modern.
We live upstairs so are available for assistance with suggestions for hiking trails or romantic restaurants or grabbing an extra blanket on a chilly night. We are best suited for guests who are out and about for the day as we have happy, active kids upstairs who do make noise and it can travel during the day. This is a cozy space for sleeping, eating and planning your adventures for the next day - if you're looking for a zen retreat or quiet days writing your novel this is not the place, although if you want to hike into the woods right behind our house it's perfect for that.
We're all about getting out and enjoying the mountains so there is no TV in the suite. We don't even have one upstairs. Lots of books and DVD's are available for sleepy nights.
The kitchenette includes a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and kettle. Organic tea and locally roasted coffee supplied. There is no sink but we've supplied a wash basin (to fill up in the bathroom), lots of eco-friendly dish soap and hand-crocheted dish cloths made by my mom.
The bathroom is small but all the essentials- toilet, shower, fresh towels, hair dryer and locally-made organic hand soap.
For guests with young children we have a Pack 'n Play for you to use. Other baby gear may be available, just let us know what you need.
Guests will have access to the suite through a private entrance in our garage. Instructions will be sent once reservation is confirmed. You can come upstairs if you like or have all the privacy you need.
Interaction with guests
We are happy to help our guests out with advice and suggestions to best enjoy their vacation, we're just a knock on the front door away. Please come up and see us if there's anything you need or send us an email. This self-contained suite offers you privacy and independence, if that's what you're after. There is a door into the suite from our home that we keep locked and only use to access the suite for cleaning.
Other things to note
We have kids who are very happy and quiet most of the time. They get up early, and in case you don't, we've supplied ear plugs. As parents we are very happy to host other families, especially those with babies, as we get it!
We are a sustainability-minded, outdoor-loving family and are happy to share our space with like-minded folks. Permaculturists, recyclers, and composters most welcome.

After many years of travelling around Canada and around the world, I've settled in Canmore with my husband and young son. We love the mountains very much and all the fun things we can do here - hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and, in general, enjoying the beauty of it all each and every day.
I love to cook - organic and local foods are my most favourite. I have many great friends who are farmers and love to play in my own garden and forage for food, too. I am a non-practicing yoga teacher, but a practicing permaculturist, vermicomposter, seamstress, new mom, writer, painter, and photographer. I value sustainability and like to recycle, compost, reuse and try to not buy too much or fix what I can.
I have lived all across Canada, Up North, and in Japan (where I taught English). I've travelled across all over America, Hawaii, Mexico, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Ukbekistan, Georgia, Thailand...I think that's all. I plan to do more and can't wait to see the world through my son's eyes. Rather than take in lots of place in a short time, I'd rather really live somewhere for a longer time and get to know it.
A special note: This summer, 2015, we've gotten the chance to do some travelling ourselves so our good friends, Jay and Laurie, will be looking after our house and the suite. I'm still your initial point of contact but Jay and Laurie will help you out once you come to town. They have two little girls and are active mountain folk who have loved living in the Bow Valley for quite a few years now.
