The best of both worlds: cosy waterside terraced Victorian house on tranquil river island 10 minutes' walk Oxford centre, 5 to train station. Perfect for 2 but sleeps 4 comfortably. Open fire and log burner, sash windows, sunny patio garden, wi-fi.
Peace and privacy, a place to relax by the fire or in the sunny garden, go on river walks from the doorstep to good pubs, yet within 10 minutes on foot to the historic centre of Oxford with its colleges, shops and restaurants. There's a king size bedroom for two with river and church views, a dressing room with a wrought iron staircase leading to an attic study (restricted headroom) with double bed. (A single foam fold out mattress is also available.) So it's ideal for 2 but can comfortably sleep 4.
Guests have the house and garden to themselves. A step down from the upstairs bedroom, dressing room and loft room, there's a high ceilinged skylit bathroom with bath and separate walk-in shower. Further down on the ground floor (the stairs are narrow and steep with a hand rail) there is a through living/dining room with both log burner and working fireplace, wooden floorboards, sash windows, a sofa, armchair, 2 pine tables and 4 chairs. An attractive kitchen leads from the dining room with French doors opening onto the patio garden. Cable TV, fast broadband/wifi.
Interaction with guests
I hope to be in Oxford at check-in to welcome guests. Access is by key safe for times I can't be there. I live and work in London but will be available by email/text/phone whenever needed. Otherwise, guests have complete privacy.
Other things to note
Please note that while the rooms with beds are private and on different floors, they are separated by a dressing room, curtained archway and staircase, rather than doors.
This is a cosy house displaying the character of its age, rather than a shiny modern let.
Sorry, no smoking in the house and please respect the near neighbours' peace - it's a friendly but quiet neighbourhood. Well behaved pets considered. Please leave the place as you'd hope to find it if you were me: secure and as clean and tidy as possible. Many thanks.
From Oct 30, 2017 - Jan 31, 2018 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
I live and work in London but Oxford is a place I've had connections with for many years, going back to when I was a student there, so I look forward to sharing with guests this place I still love to visit and the unique corner of it where the property is.
My work for many years was in TV advertising and is now in the poetry world. I'm also a published poet.
