Welcome to The Barn on the outskirts of the beautiful market town of Tavistock. This detached barn is set in an elevated position with far reaching views to moorland from the front. Our family have owned this beautifully converted barn since 2010, and have enjoyed many lovely, memorable holidays here exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area.

The local town of Tavistock has a lovely pannier market, local shops and supermarkets, as well as restaurants, coffee shops and a leisure centre.

The space
The Barn offers a double bedroom and twin bedroom with a lovely family bathroom. The kitchen is fitted with all the necessary equipment needed for your stay (including a Nespresso machine and blender). The lounge has a comfy sofa and a wood burning stove. The recently added conservatory offers a fantastic view over the valley to Cox Tor on Dartmoor National Park. There is a dining table with 6 chairs as well as two comfy arm chairs, to take advantage of the view. Outside there is a wooden picnic table and sun umbrella available. There is a level garden all around the property and a paddock at the end of the driveway, (where children can play). The washing line is located to the side of the house. There is no access to the garage.

The local town of Tavistock boasts a lovely indoor pannier market selling crafts and antiques as well as local produce. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants in the town as well as a leisure centre with a pool and tennis courts. In addition, The Wharf offers live music, cinema and arts. See website for details of events.
The Trout and Tipple Pub is walkable from the Barn, it has a relaxing atmosphere, good food and good local ales. There is a children's games room upstairs and a separate dining area.
The Tavistock Trout Fishery (opposite the Trout and Tipple pub), was opened in 1991. The fishery has five lovely fly-fishing lakes fed from the River Tavy and the lakes are stocked with range of Trout.
The National Trust’s Lydford Gorge is a 15 minute drive away. It is the deepest gorge in the South West and has a spectacular 30m waterfall. The nearby Castle Inn, in Lydford, is a beautiful 16th century Devonshire pub situated near the start of the Gorge walk in Lydford and boasts a beautiful beer garden.
On Dartmoor National Park there are many fabulous walks for a range of abilities. Princetown village is famous for its austere and forbidding prison, but also for where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle found his inspiration for The Hound of the Baskervilles. You can visit the Dartmoor Park Visitor Centre and Dartmoor Prison Museum. There are intermediate cycle routes from Princetown car park – either 10km or 30km mostly traffic free following cycleways and minor roads. You will find a range of walking and cycling route books on the reading shelf in the lounge. Heading out of Princetown you will find the Two Bridges Hotel on the banks of the West Dart River. Lots of walks start from here, including a 4-mile walk to Wistman’s Wood and Crockern Tor. The hotel offers both bar meals and award-winning fine dining as well as amazing Devon cream teas.
In the centre of Tavistock, The Bedford Hotel also offers delicious cream teas, for you to sample local clotted cream.
