Stanley, a very friendly young man! I arrived a little later than the time for which we agreed, but Stanley was very friendly and offered a glass of water off the road. This characterizes him very well. The apartment is clean and well appointed. The house has an elevator, which made it easier to climb to the second floor with a heavy suitcase. The house is well located - the central station is not far off, near the house there is a stop of a tram and a taxi. You can get to any part of the city quickly.
With respect to location, this apartment is an easy 10 mins (or a tram stop) away from the main train station, which for me was a big plus. Unfortunately right outside the room was a cluster of traffic lights and a tram stop, which meant that it generally was quite noisy even late into the night. This also isn't necessarily the tidyest apartment that I've been in, but I could otherwise live with it for a few days. That being said, Stanley was an informative and friendly host and was able to dispense useful advice about the city, which was something that I appreciated!
After staying in a hostel for the past few nights I was relieved to have a room for myself again. I stayed in Düsseldorf only for one night to go to a concert. The flat was conveniently situated right between the central bus station/ train station (5 minute walk) and the venue of the concert ("zakk", 20 minute walk) I was attending. I didn't use the kitchen and basically only stayed at the flat to get my rest. As I slept with the windows closed I didn't mind the busy road outside. The bathroom was a bit messy but Stanley was in the process of changing that. All in all he was a very helpful host and made me feel very welcome in his home.
Staying with Stanley is like staying at a friends house. Sure it's not always the greatest but he is very clear about this. Location is great for anything that you may be planning to do with the bus/tram stop right outside the front door, making Düsseldorf a very easy place to travel around, although I went by foot to most places, another plus! So if you're looking for somewhere close to public transport, easy to explore the city in whatever way you please, of walking 1 minute to the bus to get to the airport for 1.70€ when you eventually have to leave, and most importantly staying with a chill guy like Stanley, definitely consider it.
