This cozy studio on Malcolm X Park comfortably fits two, with an eat-in kitchen and third-floor bedroom with lots of light. You'll have easy access to UPenn, Drexel, public transit to Center City, and Baltimore Ave. A kitty will be your roommate!

The space

The apartment is on the third floor of a three-storey building on a quiet block of beautiful old houses. It is right on the park, and a short walk to shops, eateries, and a laundromat. It's a few blocks north of the main drag on Baltimore Ave, which has shops, cafes, restaurants, food co-op, and public transit access.

My cat, a small calico named Pup, will be staying in the apartment with you. She is very friendly and you may wake up to find her cuddling in bed with you. She's an indoor cat. I'll leave food out for her, but if you have a longer stay I will leave some extra supplies and ask you to put it out for her.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire apartment. Please feel free to use the kitchen and all of its appliances and amenities, including a french press coffee pot. You can play a record on the turntable or hook up your own player or phone to the speakers. There is Xfinity wifi available via hotspot; the first hour is free, and beyond that you can buy passes from Xfinity by the hour, day, or month. There is a desk & chair if you need to get some work done, and a bathtub to lounge in if you don't.

Interaction with guests

You'll have the place all to yourself. I'll give you the keys, introduce you to my resident cat with whom you'll be sharing the space, and leave you be.

Other things to note

There is Xfinity wifi available via hotspot. Connect to the network Xfinity and then select "Not a customer" when it generates a sign-in window in your browser. You can then select the option that's best for you: the first hour is free, and beyond that you can buy passes from Xfinity by the hour, day, or month.

Overall good for the price. Neighborhood isn't as bad as it could be. Cat is friendly and very active. It will be a part of your stay. Nice college student vibe. There were some "adult" decorations, nothing gory.

Joan's apartment was small and cozy, but not exactly what we imagined. The neighbourhood is somewhat remote from downtown and a little bit sketchy, but we still felt quite safe in the area. The first thing you notice upon entering the building is the stench of cigarettes. It's everywhere. It's probably because of one of her neighbours, but the smell made its way into the apartment and it wasn't very nice. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen very functional and the shower was good. Our roommate, Pup, was adorable and playful...but be warned, she's a rambunctious little rascal and likes to claw at anything made of leather (like our luggage). When she was feeling more relaxed, however, she was simply precious.

I lived in this neighborhood 20 years ago so it was nice to be back and be able to walk to my favorite Lebanese and Ethiopian restaurants. Communication was very prompt. Apartment is on the smallish side and there's no closest space so we couldn't easily hang our dress clothes (in town for a wedding). This was an issue because the cute little cat wanted to get into all our stuff. He tore holes in a silk dress, knocked over a full glass of water onto us while we were sleeping, made a fuss if we kept him out of the bedroom, and unfortunately seemed to be carrying fleas as both of us got bit up terribly. We are cat lovers, but this one made our stay much less comfortable. Didn't ruin the trip or anything, but definitely inconvenient.

Very nice, cozy apartment. Joan was very helpful as far as getting in touch and making sure we could get in. Neighborhood is a little rundown, but not unsafe. Helps make the place a good value :)

Although I never met Joan, she was very easy to reach via email/text. Her place was the perfect size for a weekend visit and was a good location for easy access to University City.

On the most part, Joan's apartment was a great place to stay. Make sure you really love cats if you are staying here, Pup is extremely friendly and affectionate. On most nights, Pup wanted to cuddle up on the bed with us and woke us a few times because she was looking for some affection :-). The apartment is facing a beautiful park and is of walking distance to public transport. We were however happy to be two in the neighborhood. The apartment is non smoking but the bedroom did smell a bit of smoke (this may have been due to the fact that someone else in the building was smoking). The space is quaint but cozy. Overall, we had a good experience.

Listing was incredibly accurate. The apartment was cozy and there are many amenities provided as guests. There is plenty of parking available near the apartment, and the building and surrounding area are quiet. Pup is an adorable and wonderful housemate who likes to play and cuddle (and sometimes knock things off of the dressers). Apartment was clean and there is a helpful letter of directions in terms of taking care of Pup, getting onto the WiFi, checking out, etc. Would definitely stay here again.
