'Waikonini Homestead' is a seven bedroom historic home, located five minutes from the village of Peel Forest on acres of lush botanic gardens. It is a 'destination' and should be relished as a place to unwind and to just be.

The space

The homestead is located in a rural location, five minutes drive from Peel Forest village. Wake each morning to the sound of birdsong and nature.

Plenty of space for you to relax and unwind, whether it be in the extensive house, on the veranda or under a tree in the large garden.

This listing is for one bedroom upstairs with two single beds.
A number of other private rooms are available within the homestead - please see my other listings.

Guest access

Guests will have access to a choice of two bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, as well as a number of other rooms in the house i.e. TV room and conservatory. You are welcome to make yourself at home, take a book to the veranda or garden, and relax!

Interaction with guests

I am generally around the house during your stay to take care of you, and give you advice on local attractions/activities. I am happy to cook an evening meal for you for an extra cost.

Other things to note

A great setting, good food and company. Feel free to relax in the house and garden, or use the house as a 'home base' for local events & activities. Give yourself time to enjoy the local scenery which is off the tourist routes. Please check the AA site regarding driving in NZ. Our roads here are different to what is overseas. It is not advisable to drive long distances especially if you have jet lag.

Mary's place in Peel Forest ia a gem. The house is full of old charm with a fabulous host to match.I ended up cooking dinner with Mary which was good fun as we got to chat about things we love. I loved the fact that Mary has beautiful collections of crockery and cutlery that she uses. Mary also went out of her way to organise a lunch at Fleurs Place restaurant and also loaded me up with fresh fruit. Thanks again

We had a perfect stay in Mary's beautiful home! Its a dream come true. Mary is a great host and made us feel very much at home. She cared for us in every possible way and we felt almost like we were visiting an old friend. We shared beautiful wine and talk! The rooms are beautiful and cosy, the bathroom is wonderful and we would have loved to stay longer, just to enjoy the view from the veranda and the birdsong in the morning! We will surely come back!!!

Mary was a superb hostess. The place has a historical charm and the house and grounds were most relaxing and elegant. Her meals were tasty and fresh. On a one to 10 scale, I would give my experience as "12".

Mary is the ultimate host. She gave us a full tour of the town and we opted to have her prepare dinner for us. She claims to be a cook, but I call her a chef. Dinner with Mary was three amazing courses in her beautiful conservatory. The house and gardens are very impressive and rich with history. Peel Forest is beautiful and lush.
