My wife and I came to the San Juan islands for our honeymoon. We were looking for a nice secluded place to stay where we could take in the beauty of the islands while unwinding from the year of planning. I was a tad nervous after booking when I realized they had multiple cottages on their property (as seclusion was the most important factor for us) HOWEVER upon arrival and after staying there I can't imagine a more perfect for place my wife and I to have stayed for our honeymoon. Jim and Betsy are lovely folks and their property is amazing. Each cottage is very private and our cottage (Cypress) was exactly as advertised. It was very clean, had everything we needed to cook and the view off the front porch was amazing. We enjoyed coffee while watching dolphins from the porch every morning. Getting to their place is very easy and it's only about 15 minutes from Eastsound (the only real town on Orcas). All in all a great place to stay, we would both highly recommend staying here!

The Lummi cottage met and exceeded our expectations! You feel an instant sense of peace and relaxation when you walk onto Jim and Betsy's property. The Lummi cottage is tucked away just down the hill from the main house - giving it a very private feel. The view is just gorgeous - with the added bonus of being able to watch the sunrise over the water from bed every morning. The private patio is the perfect place to enjoy a meal, a glass of wine, or a good book (or all three). Everything was exceptionally clean and Jim and Betsy were very easy to communicate/coordination with. This was our first time to Orcas island and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - fresh oysters, whale watching, kayaking and canoing, swimming in the lakes, hiking the gorgeous trails, spotting plenty of bald eagles, cooking fresh salmon, and just soaking up the beauty that is the pacific northwest. If you get a chance to visit, we highly recommend it! And the Lummi cottage is the perfect homebase. Thank you Jim and Betsy for creating such a beautiful oasis. Jen and Rezene

We had a great time staying at the Cypress Cottage, it was private and secluded, which is just what we were looking for. The cottage was very clean, well maintained, and had a good supply of kitchen utensils for cooking. The bathroom wasn't pictured, but its a good size and in great condition. The private beach is very rocky and a bit difficult to walk down to, but has still has breathtaking views.

Wonderful little cabin with a fantastic view of the water. Very quiet, peaceful surroundings - the beach was empty for the entirety of the 3-4 hours we spent on it, and we didn't see a single person on any of the surrounding beaches either. The cabin itself is small but nicely outfitted, including with a fireplace. Perfect place for a weekend retreat. (And worth waking up early for the amazing sunrise over Mt. Baker, if it's clear out.)

The cabin is beautiful and secluded. So cozy to sit by the fireplace and be able to look out and the water and islands. Jim and Betsy were lovely hosts. We would definitely stay again!

Jim & Betsy User ProfileJim & Betsy is a superhost.

Betsy & Jim met in Seattle in the early 70's, married, and moved to Orcas in 1975. The island has been our home ever since.

It's hard to believe that Bayside Cottages has been welcoming new guests to Orcas for over 30 years. It all started with the renovation of the original Bayside Cottage, and we slowly grew the business over the years, designing and building many of the cottages ourselves.

We're lucky to wake up every day in such a beautiful place, and it's always a joy to see how much our guests love it here, too.
