The space

Singtom Tea Estate & Resort is steeped in the history of Darjeeling. The resort is located inside Singtom and Steinthal Tea Estates. Singtom is Darjeeling’s 3rd oldest tea estate, while Steinthal, planted in 1852, is Darjeeling’s oldest tea estate.

Located at an altitude of ~4,500 ft. above sea level, Singtom Resort opened its doors in 2012. Built in 1862 as the bungalow of the director of Singtom and Steinthal Tea Estates, the resort had to undergo renovation to reach state-of-the-art standards.

Covering several acres of land, Singtom Resort is a majestic property that prides itself on making its guests feel at home. The cozy atmosphere created by the age-old fireplaces, the Buddha-centric decor, the wooden flooring, the smell of the world’s best teas, the breathtaking views of other tea estates and the Himalayan peaks make Singtom Resort unique. It is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, a relaxing family holiday, or a spiritual experience.

Although we cut short trip the trip by one day (Expecting the one day refund soon), it was a nice experience with the tea garden and the lovely view of the Kanchenjunga range from the place...people looking to stay outside the typical hotel environment must have a look.

Response from Aditya:
Ashish is the worst guest we have had since we opened our doors to the public. He is intolerable, arrogant, scheming, disrespectful and sour. When I didn't lower the price for my stay, he used the "Do you know who the hell I am?" line on me. I basically showed him the finger and asked him to mind his language if he wanted to stay with me. I regret allowing him to stay. Then, he got an extra guest unannounced, for which he was not willing to pay cash at the property. He wanted to "transfer" the money electronically to me instead of paying while leaving. In other words, he wanted to get out and get away without paying. He cut short his trip by one day because he managed to get free accommodation somewhere else. He tried to lie to me by telling me my services and amenities weren't up to scratch, which is a blatant lie because we have hosted many people in the past and I have never heard that gibberish before. He then expects me to give him a refund for that day. When I disagreed, he told me "karma" will come back to haunt me and that he considers the money not returned by money as money given to charity. My advice to all hosts is please stay away from Ashish Shrivastava. We don't host people just for the money. We did it because we're passionate about it, and such people are more pain than pleasure to host.

We had a wonderful stay at Singtom! From the moment we arrived we felt a sense of peace and warmth. We had the 153 year old home to ourselves and it was inviting, comfortable, and charming. The gardens surrounding the house were beautifully maintained and we loved just sitting outside soaking it in. The highlights were the delicious and lovingly prepared food- vegetarian and organic- made by a group of friendly, attentive women and the fires each night, one lit in the living room before dinner, and one in our bedroom always lit in time for a warm bedtime. We also had a car/driver which made it possible for us to see all the sites we wished to and to spend ample time in the town of Darjeeling before heading "home" to our quiet, serene retreat. Highly recommend!
