This mountain, dog friendly cabin is nestled on the edge of Blue Canyon and sits on 10.5 beautiful forested acres next to Tahoe National Forest at 4900' elevation: Kayaking, world class skiing, snow play, hiking, mountain biking, Gold Rush era towns, and Lake Tahoe lie within a 10-45 minute drive. Fully equipped gourmet kitchen. Discounted for guests: Kayak High Sierra Lake.

The space
You will be staying in a cabin which was handcrafted by my husband and me. The kitchen is designed and outfitted with the gourmet in mind. The cabin contains: Keurig Coffee Maker (and pods), toaster oven, toaster, small food processor, crock pot, blender, pots and pans, pizza stone, baking gear, rolling pin etc. If you need that a specific kitchen gadget, it is likely that we have it in the main home kitchen. Just ask.

The bedroom has a queen size bed and a loft with an additional queen futon with thick mattress top that will sleep two adults. Flooring is tile and hardwood. There is a large walk-in shower and enough storage to make your extended stay feel like home.

There is a washer and dryer with soap for the post mountain-bike-adventure laundry.

In the summertime, you can open every window and door to let the cool fresh mountain air pour in (and the birds will sing you awake in the morning.) In winter, the cabin is heated by a wood burning stove with a gas wall heater for back up.

Please note: The pet guest fee is $30 and will be requested through AirBnB. The request will appear in your notifications. This must be paid before arrival. NO CATS please (allergy issues).

You will be joining us in a four season outdoor adventure paradise. Whatever the season, you will find world class venues for play. Winter: World class downhill/cross-country skiing and snowboarding are 25 minutes away. Another 15 minutes takes you to Squaw Valley resort for ice-skating, Olympic level skiing and a winter swim. On your way to Squaw, stop in Truckee for dining and unique shopping in Old Town. Take your morning brew at the wonderful Coffee Bar.

Summer: Lakes, rivers, 10/10 hiking trails, mountain biking, kayak and paddle board rentals and a local community pool are all a few minutes away. (We kayak.... Kayaking is 12 minutes up 80 to Lake Valley Reservoir and Donner Lake is 30 minutes. Hiking to Salmon Lake or Loch Leven Lakes also right up the road.) Head for Lake Tahoe for its heart-stopping deep-blue beauty. The Tahoe area presents you with a myriad of water activities. Shopping and every level of dining are available. We offer a discount to our guests that book our AirBnB kayak experience: KAYAK ON HIGH SIERRA LAKE.

Head off to Nevada City, a haven of arts, music venues, farm to fork restaurants and unique shopping. This mining town has retained its original character and is a wonderful place to spend a day. If you go, ask me how to find the local's secret hand-crafted ice cream shop. Or explore Dutch Flat, an old mining town just 2 exits west.

We have lived here for 25+ years and have extensive knowledge of the area. We are happy to help in planning your days in our beautiful part of the world.

If you like, you can just spend a day or a month or the entire season at the cabin, on a retreat or just a time out. We have hosted writers, musicians, composers and people who just need some creative down time. There is a grand piano in the main house for professional musicians needing practice time.

Janine has an eclectic resumé, from Founding Artistic Director of a non-profit arts organization, conductor and pianist, to dessert chef, plumber and quilter. She and her life-coach husband built their own home on the edge of Tahoe National Forest in the California Sierra. She did the wood work, tile and plumbing, and passed the plumbing inspection the first time around! They live with their white-swiss shepherds, Apollo and Athena, just a hop, skip and a jump away from their adult son and Donner Lake. Ken and Janine love travel—near and far—and enjoy good food and wine, hiking, long distance walking, art, music and photography. As hosts, we welcome you to an evening visit in the main house with a glass of wine and we also will respect your privacy—as you wish.
