Great location in a lovely street in the Centro Storico (medieval Genoa). On 4th floor and there was NO LIFT. Although this was mentioned in description, the stairs proved wearing and the stairwell light was not working one night. Very spacious living area and well equipped kitchen and good water pressure on shower. Natural light is limited given the surrounding high buildings. Cleanliness barely adequate, old and worn linens. Given price paid, we thought standards were below expectation.

This apartment is ideally located just a few minutes walk from Piazza di Ferrari, which makes it very convenient for public transport, including the Metro and the Volabus service to the airport. There are also loads of eating places nearby. We ate lunch and dinner at a different place every day during our 9-day visit, but we had breakfast most days at the Rock Cafe, which is right beside the entrance to the apartment (friendly service and very reasonable prices). Unfortunately, we didn't meet Paolo, but he was very helpful via the phone and text messages. His apartment is very stylish and up to date, with all the amenities we could wish for, including air-conditioning in both the bedroom and living area. Most importantly, the bed was very comfortable. There are a gazillion channels on the TV, though I failed to find any in English. However, we didn't come to Italy to watch TV, so that was not a problem. Be aware that many of the electrical sockets are a flat 3-pin Italian design, rather than the circular EU (Schuko) sockets for which UK-sourced adapters are designed. If the number of Schuko sockets is insufficient for your needs you can buy an adapter to convert 3-pin to Schuko for €2.50 in an electrical hardware store, as we did (Paulo provides 2 of these adapters to supplement the existing Schuko sockets). The only thing that stops this from being a 5-star apartment is that it is on the fourth floor and there is no lift. My wife and I are 69 and 72 respectively, so climbing the stairs took us a bit longer than it would for younger folks. Genoa is also a rather hilly city and we were out walking all day, every day, so a visit here is good for keeping fit! We would thoroughly recommend Paulo's apartment as a base for exploring the delights of Genoa and the surrounding area.

We really enjoyed our stay. Great location within the old city walls, a maze of narrow streets, surrounded by many bars and restaurants. Highly recommend a boat ride to Camogli and Portofino, and hiking up to the top of the city.

Paolo's apartment is virtually perfect and Paolo is an extremely accommodating host, even under short notice. I had to leave another apartment that was not as advertised and Paolo allowed me to to see his apartment before I committed. I chose to stay because his apartment delivers what the other only promised: beauty and (above all) safety and comfort. It's spacious, luminous, has a luxuriously soft bed, a comfy sofa and seat for reading by the window, and an attractive, contemporary bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped: Paolo's apartment has a dishwasher, plenty of dishware, blenders, traditional "cafeteria"/espresso makers, and a microwave with a grill setting (in lieu of a toaster -- there is none). There is also a washing machine. All major appliances were plugged in on arrival, leaving zero room for ambiguity. On top of this, the location is perfect. The apartment is located in an extremely family friendly part of the historic center, just inside of the perimeter of the old city. There is no prostitution in this area. It was a joy to open the shutters every morning and see the giant entrance to the original medieval city, Porta Soprana. It was equally a joy to hear the hubbub of happy people in the restaurants below (Paolo's apartment is quite high up, so the sound is never overbearing). And if you chose to spend a day indoors, you will still feel like you are in an historic city because the the ceiling of the living space features what appears to be an ancient fresco. There is even a terrace on the rooftop, with sights of Porta Soprana, St. Agostino, the Palazzo della Borsa, and even the Ligurian Sea. In all, I spent 29 days in Paolo's apartment. If I used Airbnb to come to Genoa again, I would most certainly stay in Paolo's apartment again. I felt safe there and the communication I had with the host confirmed this feeling. Thank you, Paolo, for a perfect stay.

Paolo has a beautiful flat perfectly located in the historic centre of Genoa. The flat is vary spacious, nicely decorated and is perfect for exploring the city. A great bakery, small market, underground station and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants are within minutes from the flat. On the occasion of our visit, I felt that the flat was not prepared properly for our arrival. There was a cleanliness issue (what looked like cat hairs on the bed) and a lack of basic amenities: only one towel for two guests, lack of soap in the bathroom and lack of a quilt cover and pillow cases for two of the pillows. When mentioned these to Paolo he pointed us to a linen cupboard where we only found wet towels smelling of damp. Most of all we resented Paolo's comment that "you are renting an airbnb private house not a hotel room". Having been an airbnb host myself, I think it is fair for guests to expect basic amenities. Overall, Paolo has a great flat and if he takes more care in preparing for his guests' arrival, this would be a fantastic place to stay when visiting Genoa.

Response from Paolo:
Dear George I am very sorry that your experience was not up to your standard. Since i do work on weekends i appoitend (and paid) a professional that was in continuous contact with you to solve any problem (and additionally i gave instructions to get extra linen, towels nd soaps in the apartment 2 hours after your arrival. My commentary (you forgot to say that was the end of a last reply to give you solutions to your deception about not finding the things in the right place) was needed in order to remind that renting thru airbion shall be made - this is my opinion after 6 years of renting and being host in several apartments - with a smile and a friendly approach. Addressing me with "this is disappointing" because soap was in a drawer (and not on the sink ?) was a bit awkward. Amichevolmente, Paolo
