This is a happening location! Very clean and perfect for folks that want to be IN the party and just have a place to crash. Barry was very responsive to a last minute need we had (sheets for the futon since there were 3 of us) and communicated quickly and efficiently to make sure we could find the place and got in ok. The place has lots of kitchen necessities (coffee maker, stove, toaster oven, etc.), beach equipment to utilize (chairs, various snorkel gear, and even a cooler), and a patio with one of the best views in Vieques! This place is also located right above one of the best local food restaurants on the island and on the main strip for other restaurants, bars, and tourist trip (bio-bay trips, scooter rental, etc.) necessities. Do note that this place can get very loud now that the restaurant downstairs hosts live music some nights. We stayed here last year and got used to the general party strip street noise, but this year was much louder with bands playing until 2am! Again, great if that's your scene and you're one of the revelers that will be partaking in the action. Maybe not so much if you want to head to bed by 10 or 11pm.

The apartment is in a central location right on the Malecon in Esperanza, which means that it's easy to walk to handful of restaurants in this very small town, but also means that it can be very loud in the apartment at night, especially when there is live music at the bar below the apartment. Bring earplugs! The apartment has a kitchen, which is nice for keeping some cold drinks in the fridge and ice cubes in the freezer, but cooking anything is logistically tricky because there are no grocery stores in Esperanza--just a liquor store. The gas stove is also a bit tricky to use, bring matches to light. You also need a car to reach the good beaches in Vieques--Red Beach and Media Luna were our favorites--so even though you're in a central location you'll need to rent a car or pay dearly for taxis. The apartment is a bit dark and tired--the kitchen and bathroom especially--so you'll enjoy your stay the most spending your days at the beaches and your evenings having dinner and drinks somewhere on the Malecon!

Pros: -Prime Location close to shops and everything you might need -Across from beach -Great view from living room -Large space -Good lighting during daytime -Charming little outdoor area with plants and a nice mosaic table and chairs for watching the sunset -Prompt communication with Barry, Olga's assistant -Jorge sells beautiful jewelry directly downstairs and takes care of two very cute and very shy cats who like to lounge on the patio outside. He is very friendly and eager to give recommendations and guidance to travelers! -Locals are all incredibly friendly and helpful, great casual island vibe with beautiful beaches in every direction Con: -Missing basic necessities like hand soap and dish soap, a lighter for the gas stove and salt; which was disappointing upon arrival since my partner and I wanted to relax and had to spend our first night going out to get these cheap basics instead of relaxing and unpacking. We also had to replace lots of lightbulbs that Olga had thoughtfully left but, for how much we paid it seemed silly we should have to spend our first night prepping these basics and cleaning some silverware. -When we turned the air conditioner on in the bed room it leaked down on and into the dresser which our clothes were in so they got wet (Barry came to fix the plugged drain hose within 10 minutes of alerting him which was great though!) But the dresser still smelt musty so we didn't end up keeping our clothes in it. -The bed is not a mattress it is a VERY squeaky foam pad which was hard and not very comfortable to sleep on for 4 nights in a row. -Bathroom could use a bath mat due to slick tiles -The room is above a bar and on a Main Street so it is very loud on the weekends until 4am from dancing across the street and cars blaring music as they drive past. My partner and I decided to go out and enjoy the festivities (which we recommend, dancing across the street!) but if you are older or looking for something constantly peaceful then be prepared with earplugs for the music. Overall, it has great potential and my partner and I enjoyed our stay, you are mostly paying for the location and large space and it just needs some more attention to detail to make it a more pleasurable experience. Thanks Olga!

Olga's apartment has a lot of potential. The communication is excellent, they were in contact making sure we were able to locate the place. The apartment is located across from a nice beachfront walk. The best restaurants are near by and very active night life. You can hear the live music from the bar/restaurant downstairs from the apartment; cars with loud music and noisy motorcycles at night. The location is in the middle of a nice beachfront boulevard where locals and tourists hang out during the evening and late night. The apartment is spacious. It is equipped with the essential cooking items. The shower curtain has mold, the bathroom is not air conditioned, and a lot of mosquitos get inside. Most of the beach equipment is old, rusty, and not usable. We would advise renting a jeep to get around the island and visit the various beautiful beaches that are accessible by way of dirt roads. There is also a nice beach within walking distance, across the street.

Response from Ogla:
AS always we appreciate our guests feedback and reviews. Not sure what the mosquito issue was.... Especially since this is the first time anyone has mentioned any problem before. All windows have screens as well as the apartment door. If the screen door is left open mosquitos could come in... Other than that I do not know how they entered apartment. Not sure how much mold was on the shower curtain... But any mold is not acceptable... This is easy to remedy... Replace it and wash the removed curtain. As always we prefer to be told of any "problem" with our apartments while the guests are staying in them so we can address any issues immediately. I took 2 new beach chairs to the apartment the second morning of their visit.

The location in the Heart of Esperanza was great and meant that we didn't need to rent a vehicle to do anything we wanted, including visiting beaches at the Wildlife Reserve (we rented bikes). It's directly above a restaurant that turns into a nightclub on holiday weekends. So it was VERY loud. The apt itself was totally fine and clean. The bed was really creaky and the bedding was less than ideal, but overall - it was totally fine. We got to know Rafael down the street, which is where we rented bikes and paddle boards. The restaurants in the area are all pretty good. I would definitely stay here again if I came back to Vieques.
