The space

Casa Mabati is a small certified organic orchard with blueberries, feijoas, chestnuts and walnuts, on the outskirts of Waihi. We also have sheep, free-range pigs and poultry and grow vegetables and a wide variety of other fruit. Tony makes cider, fruit wine and honey mead (pretty rough!- but I like it.) The property is about 7 acres in total, with a stream boundary.

The house is large and rustic with 2 comfortable, spacious guest suites upstairs. The room has TV and DVD player.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to explore the property and join us in the downstairs sitting room if they wish. Use of outdoor bathtub and petanque court.

Interaction with guests

Other meals by arrangement including wood-fired pizzas.

Other things to note

Waihi is a small town at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula, and is 130km from the Auckland Airport, 90km from Hamilton and 60km from Tauranga.

Tony is lovely and friendly, that we had an amazing time, he gave us a tour of the gardens, and we were given blueberries and other fruits straight off the bush. The breakfast was delicious and the room was lovely, clean, spacious and the view was stunning. Perfect place to stop at the end of the a bike trip through the Karangahake Gorge.

Tony is a welcoming and warm host. He made us feel truly at home, from making sure our room was warmed up upon arrival (it was crisp autumn weather that day), and feeding us with his organic fruits. We enjoyed his stories about organic farming and Africa, as well as dinner recommendation. The breakfast was amazing and the house has great character. We would love to stay here again! Thank you :)

We had a lovely and memorable time staying at the Casamabati Orchard. The orchard setting had a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, yet it's very close to town. The house, bedroom and bathroom were all very spacious, comfortable and clean. The bedrooms have their own porch with great views over the orchard. Tony was an amazing host, very friendly, helpful, with lot's of interesting stories to tell and a large wealth of knowledge on organic farming and the Waihi region in general. He made us feel welcome at his home and made sure we had everything we needed. His cooked breakfasts are delicious! We loved being shown around the orchards and sharing a glass of homemade cider. Thanks again for the wonderful time, we look forward to visiting again!

What a wonderful stay we had, beyond what we expected. Casa Mabati is a great, quiet location, exactly what we needed. The room has a very nice set up, very spacious with a balcony and wonderful view. The room comes with a fridge and you can make yourself a coffee or tea and relax reading some magazines. Everything was very clean and the fresh flowers gave it a special touch. We felt quickly like at home. Tony is a wonderful host. He took the time to show us around on his orchard and taught us so much on our short stay. We were able to feed the pigs and try and taste different types of Blueberries, the best Blueberries ever! And we tried his home made Honey mead. The next day he made us a wonderful breakfast with muesli, toast, homemade marmalade and honey, crepe, fresh fruit and fresh coffee – all organic. We had plenty, so we were prepared for our big walk. My husband rates his crepes as the best pancakes ever – they were delicious, filled with Blueberries, Apples, Feijoas and Honey. We fell in love with this place and are sure that we are going to be back. Thanks Tony, for this wonderful stay!

Tony is a great host and the room was really lovely. The breakfast was amazimg and had lots of fresh fruit from the orchard. There was even some fresh fruit provided up in our room which was a nice touch. We even had the option of having a wander around the orchard to see the animals and fruit trees. Great views, great host, great stay!

What a fantastic stay we had!! Tony is a wonderful host and great cook. The room was private, accessed by a separate staircase, had its own balcony and was very clean. The surrounding garden and farm is a picturesque outlook. Breakfasts were beautiful and the organic fruit bowl in our room a really nice touch. Tony communicated very well with us and is lovely and very interesting. Centrally located to great walks and beaches. We would definitely come back and have already recommended it to others.

Tony is a wonderful host and very welcoming. He was able to offer advice about the local services and sights, and we loved looking around his orchard and learning about his organic farming and fruit growing.
