A wonderful place to stay that's a bit off the beaten track which is great. The casitas (there are four of them) face the ocean and are located in a local neighborhood (La Gloria). The owners' mansion is just behind the casitas, and the housekeeper's house (Leti) is just across t…

While we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bob and Joyce in person, our honeymoon stay was everything we could have imagined! The casitas are clean, bright and perfect for a relaxing island vacation. All of the hosts' advice on where to eat, what to do, etc., was also greatly a…

The casita was spotless, pleasantly decorated and well stocked with everything a guest would need. Seeing and hearing the crashing waves of the Caribbean right across the road was wonderful. Check-in was great with Marcela giving us great tips on where to eat, where to shop, et…

Response from Joyce:
Marla, we are so sorry about your terrible experience. It seems events conspired against you in almost every way possible. It was your first night and no one could've predicted such an extended power outage. We live right next door, behind the casitas, and were not affected however everyone in the block north and 2 blocks south of the casita were without power for almost 14 hours. I only became aware that the power was out at 11 p.m. and so was not able to offer you any advice. It must've been very stuffy with the windows closed and no AC. It would've been safe to open the window above the sliding glass doors but, on your first night and without lights, you probably didn't think of or see that option. As you probably noted in my package of information, I caution about keeping doors and windows secured. Isla Mujeres is generally a very safe island but thieves seem to take any opportunity they see. I can only imagine how frightened you must've been. We did appreciate that you called and left the key with us rather than leave the casita unlocked. If my husband seemed matter-of-fact about the whole thing please understand he really was flummoxed by the whole situation. It was 7 a.m. when you called and he had just got out of bed. His first thought was that someone was probably calling the wrong number. When he understood that you were leaving he quickly got dressed and went to the casita but you were already packed, loaded and ready to leave. He said he really didn't know what to say. We are not usually heavy sleepers and can't figure out why we didn't hear you knocking on our door. Or were you knocking on the wooden gate? I could understand not being able to hear that. We have had very rare incidents of theft in the past and have always worked with our clients to make sure a police report was filed and their stolen items were cancelled. I wish we had had the opportunity to talk to you and your husband; even if you had decided to leave the casitas, perhaps you would not have cancelled your vacation. Again, we are very sorry that you had such a negative experience.

We LOVED the patio and view. Room was very clean, had everything we needed. Shower was warm and had plenty of pressure. We preferred the La Gloria area which is more of a genuine Mexican neighborhood instead of resort or hotel area. The ocean breeze cools and refreshes. We w…

Excellent casita to stay in while visiting the island! Very clean, safe & in a great section of the island...away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, yet close enough to walk to get to many great restaurants! The ocean is right across the street and lulled us to sleep every…

Casita del Mar has a lovely view over looking the sea (watch out note though, you're not able to swim in the sea that side of the island due to the strong currents). The property was beautifully clean and the kitchen inside was well stocked with the utensils you need to rustle so…

Joyce's place is clean and charming, it has everything you need while traveling. It is locaetd right across from the Gulf of Mexico, though you can't swim right there, you're not far from swimmable beaches, and the view is gorgeous. We were greeted by Marcela, Joyce's property…
