As its name suggests, the Penthouse occupies the top floor of the Old Vicarage, a grade 2 listed Georgian house with much older roots, located directly behind the church of St John the Baptist in the heart of the historic market town of Bishops Castle. From its lofty location guests can enjoy far reaching views over the town and hills beyond.

The space
With completely independent access from the main house via an external staircase, the accommodation includes a cosy sitting room, two king-sized bedrooms (one with space for an additional small single foldout bed suitable for a child or young person), a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom (bath with shower over). Please note that whilst there is a modern TV, reception around here is poor but you can connect your laptop/phone using an HDMI/HDMI cable (please bring one if you can), or use the DVD player with one of our large collection of ‘holiday’ dvd’s! There is a travel cot if required (cot bedding not supplied). Guests are also welcome to enjoy the splendid grounds of the Old Vicarage; one and a half acres of formal gardens, orchard, and a folly built from the ruined remains of the medieval church.
The house and gardens are shared by two cats and a large but friendly family dog. It may be possible for guests to bring a well behaved dog providing it doesn’t chase cats! Please enquire.
Access is up an outdoor staircase (28 steps) making it unsuitable for those with accessibility issues. For this reason, and as there is a pond in the garden, small children must be supervised at all times.
Off-road parking and locked cycle storage are available if required.
NB The Old Vicarage also includes the Oriel Glass Studio offering holiday courses in stained glass for both beginners and improvers. Please enquire with Helen.

My husband Jerry and I moved to Bishops Castle in 2016 having retired from ‘the smoke’ (London), where we had spent most of our working lives. We now share the Old Vicarage with my elderly father and enjoy welcoming visitors to share this beautiful place that we now call home. We could not have wished to join a more welcoming community, both locals and incomers like ourselves. We love the vibrancy of this small town, brimming with creative people, artists and musicians, never a dull moment! Jerry loves walking our gorgeous dog Heidi around the stunningly beautiful Shropshire Hills. We have spent three years working on the house and garden and have built a new studio to house my business, the Oriel Glass Studio where I design and make traditional stained glass windows as well as teaching to pass on my enthusiasm for this wonderful medium.
