Wheems cottage is a lovely place to stay - fully equipped kitchen and great selection of books. Michael was very welcoming and even shared some apples and eggs from the farm. What a treat! Thanks for the wonderful accommodation.

The cottage at Wheems is located a 5 minutes drive from the ferry in St. Margaret's Hope on a beautiful farm overlooking the sea on the west coast of South Ronaldsay. It is a beautiful, cozy cottage with everything you need to relax and rest up on an adventure to the Orkney Islands. Since everything on the main island of Ronaldsay is connected by causeways or roads this cottage is perfect for a visit. Islay is super friendly and in contact immediately if you need anything. I loved it and look forward to eventually returning someday!

Beautiful part of Orkney. In the countryside but close to local shops, ferry and lovely little cafe. We stayed in The Cottage which is really nice, cosy and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful. Very happy with my choice.

The view from the cottage's door is of farmland and a beach. The only sounds at night are the wind and the waves. The cottage was a good spot for my wife and I to stay for 9 nights and from which to do day trips around Orkney. It was nice to have a stove on which to cook meals.

This property did not meet our expectations which we explained to Islay and we left one night early. Islay listened to our comments and attempted to improve the situation. We assumed that the property was semi-detached to the cottage but it was an annexe linked by full length glass doors and a curtain and voices travelled between properties affecting privacy. Also the patio outside is completely overlooked by the cottage windows. On a positive note, the interior of the cottage is exactly as described: small, rustic and quaint; exactly what we would wish for in Orkney. The location for us was beautiful and ideal..... within 5 minutes drive of ferry terminal yet remote and rural. Outside the property is an excellent location for camping and the pods look very tempting. You can walk from the farm down to the beach for an evening stroll for a couple of hours of course with a detour to see the standing stone nearby!

We did everything we could to meet these guest expectations when they were here as they weren't aware the cottage was an annexe. They came to talk to us when they arrived which I appreciated as they wanted a quiet holiday which can be expected of our place. When people are talking loudly in the hallway that adjoins the cottage with the farmhouse it is possible to hear them in the cottage, we have put up an extra curtain to help this and you can't hear between the house and the cottage as there are 2 sets of doors and a room / lobby in between so it's only when people are in the hallway really that you can hear something of the comings and goings at Wheems. I have taken on board Sylvia's comments and have reviewed our cottage listing. It was a shame these guests felt it necessary to leave early but I am glad they sound like they enjoyed their stay despite the noise from the hallway.

I live between Edinburgh and Orkney most of the time and I feel very lucky to live in Scotland.
Wheems Organic Farm Campsite and Eco Cabins is a small family run business. I was brought up at Wheems and it is the most beautiful location I know.
I love to travel and meet new people and we all enjoy having guests at Wheems, to know they are appreciating the view of the sea and the surroundings and it's great when people enjoy the organic food we grow on the farm so much. My Dad Michael and my brother Daniel are based at Wheems organic farm and are very helpful.
My family and I at Wheems Organic Farm are concerned about environmental sustainability, the whole place is powered by renewable energy - wind, solar and ground source and we provide good recycling facilities.
The sunny room in Edinburgh is my house where I live with my boyfriend Duncan, we rent rooms out sometimes when one or both of us are out of the country. When we are out of the country, I am still contactable on an international sim which is cheap to call. Duncan is very laid back and very good natured to live with.
