Oak Lawn, aka, Burford House, a Georgian '4-over-4' clapboard farmhouse (a classic example of Virginian antebellum architecture), was successfully nominated to the Virginia Landmark Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 after extensive renovations. While the "Mansion House" was the center point of the 19th Century Village of Burford, VA, only Oak Lawn and its well house (two out of ten buildings) have survived. Upon the removal of wall materials during de-construction, it was determined the present structure was completely transformed and rebuilt about 1850 around an existing 18th century four room, two story house. Country living at its best but conveniently located between Lynchburg and Amherst, Virginia. Area colleges are a 15 minute drive from the house.
Guests will have full access to house as well as the gardens and grounds.
Should guests wish to host an event (luncheon, party, reception, etc.) for up to 30 guests, there will be an additional charge of $200 to cover the additional wear and tear on the property.

We are a fun loving couple who have fully renovated an 1850's farmhouse overlooking Tobacco Row Mountain in Amherst County, VA. We love to hike and explore the AT and Blue Ridge Parkway, both only 20 minutes away. We have begun a native plant garden and a wildflower meadow. Janet loves her birds as she sits and drinks her coffee or tea at the kitchen window. Dick is a fern fanatic and has planted many species in the garden. Since we are still both working in Richmond, VA and are hardly there , we began sharing Oak Lawn several years ago. We are pleased to offer our second home for others to enjoy should your travel destination include Lynchburg, Amherst, Liberty University, Lynchburg, Randolph or Sweet Briar Colleges, or central Virginia.
