The space
This character apartment has everything you need to kick back and relax. The apartment is full of art, lots of colour and quirky vintage charm.

This is my home, I'll be travelling around NZ while you stay here. I have removed most of the personal items but you'll find some things that I have left in some drawers.
Please remember that this is not a hotel but my home. Please be respectful.

Set in a complex of twenty two apartments, the Paihia Loft is on the top floor with outstanding views of the valley, bush, birds and sky.

You'll enjoy privacy and a sunny covered deck, with lots of plants, a deck garden.

At dusk in summer hundreds of sea birds come to the valley every night to eat flying insects, it's quite a sight and wonderful to watch.

*The modern kitchen has a gas cooktop, electric oven, dishwasher and a Fridge/Freezer. As this apartment is also my home when I am not travelling, the pantry is stocked with all the basics and the drawers contain all the cookware to prepare gourmet meals. Please feel free to use for your cooking. No Microwave.

*The living area has a comfortable seating, a smart TeeVee with all the Apps and a desk to do computer work at.

*The bathroom is clean and modern.

* The first bedroom is cosy and compact with a King sized bed & bedside tables with lamps on each. This room is next to the front door and along the hall. It's really quiet back there and with the blockout blind down you can get great sleep. There is a fan in this room.

* The second bedroom with a loft double bed is next to the living room and across the hall from the bathroom. Access to the loft bed is via the cubby stairs, then you crawl across the bed, it's snug and cosy but you do need to take that into account. There is limited space for sitting up straight in bed, if you are super tall.
The steps up are wide and provide stable footing but you do need to negotiate them carefully in the night if getting up.
The loft bed gets a lovely outlook to the deck and further out to the view.
There is a fan in there for cooling the night & if it's really barmy you can leave the sliding door to the deck open and have all night fresh air. Close the linen curtains to prevent flying bugs coming in.

Where you’ll be

Paihia, Northland, New Zealand

So much to see and do in Paihia. Here are some of my favourite local eateries & shopping go-tos down the lanes & around Paihia;

*Best Cafe; Tasty homemade food and a bike-loving barista - Third Wheel Vending. Check em out on FB. Outside seating under umbrellas and a few indoor tables or takeout. No menu, delicious healthy cabinet food only.
Take the alley next to the Fire Station on Selwyn Road, head towards the water and you'll find the locals cafe in the alley.
Open 8-2 pm only, sadly Closed Sunday & Monday.

*Kombi Nation - a clothing and collectibles mecca run by my lovely next door neighbour, Mary. It's a treasure trove of awesomeness. Upstairs above Bad Habits bar and deli at the end of the Selwyn Mall laneway.

*Bad Habits - A Gin cocktail bar and eatery, with a great deli & expansive liquor shop for all your cocktails or refreshments on the deck at Paihia Loft.

*Flying Fish Design store - on the main shopping street. Look for the blue painted exterior & the Flying Fish mural on the wall. Cool jewellery, art, homeware and gifts. Instore gift wrapping too.

*CC's - Crystal Chandelier - unique glamourous clothing and swimwear for all occasions.

*Rip Curl for all your streetwear and beach needs.

*Terra Restuarant - Scandi dining - upscale simple & stylish. Above Westpac, Outdoor seating on the balcony with water views.

*Charlotte's Kitchen - on the end of the Wharf, Pizza, Seafood, Water Views.

*JFC - Just Fish n Chips - except it's not - they serve delicious taco's, Great Seafood chowder & a variety of seafood dishes. They have wonderful outdoor seating in the garden and often have live music. The white villa across the road from the beach, near the stone Church. Turn right at the start of School Rd and you'll find it.

*CKB -Craft Kitchen & Bar, great pub food and friendly service. It's on the water next to the tourist helicopter at the end of the Maritime Building.

*Greens Restaurants - Authentic Indian & Thai food restaurants on the waterfront, on each side of the alley with the whale in it. Walk past Third Wheel cafe & Kombi Nation then you'll find Greens. Takeaway menus is in the kitchen drawer under the pantry.

*Bay lookout - Climb the steps to the lookout beside and to the right of the Helicopter. Or take a helicoptor ride.

*Zane Greys, resort style bar and dining on the over the water space. Relax on the oversized deck loungers.

*Alfresco cafe & Rayz on the Bay are both opposite the beach to the right of School Road, They both have local live music from 3pm-7ish on the weekends, food is mostly pub grub. Hang with the locals.

*For awesome views head to the Golf Club Cafe, outdoor seating under umbrellas, you are surrounded by green grass & blue sky & water. Head up the hill past the Waitangi Museum.

*The Waitangi Museum is a must-do, the Entrance fee includes the grounds tour, a cultural performance, carving studio, waka shed, gift shop and three buildings of cultural museums. There is the main museum, the new Maori Battalion museum and the Busby Family home where the Treaty of Waitiangi was signed. There is also a great cafe set in a garden with a pond with eels. You can enter the cafe from the carpark without having to pay to go into the museum.

*Supermarkets: Four Square & a mini Countdown in the village - opposite the large car park in town, a 5-minute walk. You'll find a larger Countdown, go left at the roundabout towards Waitangi, left along the beach.

It is a safe neighbourhood but please use common sense with regards to your security and safety. Please lock the ranch slider that opens to the deck when you go out.
