Glebe Barn comfortably hosts an extended family of six: up to four adults (as two couples) and two children, within a tranquil, picturesque, agricultural setting.

Parkland and facilities are shared with The Manor House Estate, a former dairy farm, now a cluster of second-homes. Step out into parkland, or retire to the attic for glimpses of the River Deben's estuary across uninterrupted, rural views. Fibre broadband and reliable 4G coverage means you're only as isolated as you choose to be...

The space
Glebe Barn is a modern, airy house, styled as a barn conversion in the local vernacular. It has four bedrooms (two for adults, two for children), two bathrooms (one en-suite, one “Jack & Jill”), sitting room, kitchen / diner, attic sitting room and separate utility, arranged over ground and two upper floors.

LIVING SPACES

The kitchen is fully catered for, this being a house that the hosts use regularly for their own entertaining and refuge. There is a wood burning stove for the winter months, B&O TVs for either DVDs or streaming via an Amazon Firestick. The hosts’ tastes are “mid-century” with furnishings from Ercol, Florence Knoll, Marimekko and Alessi. East Anglia artwork by Charles Bartlett is dotted throughout. There is a large selection of family books, DVDs, CDs, board games, and a record player, so feel free to bring your vinyl along!

DOUBLE BEDROOMS

There are two double bedrooms, each with a king-sized bed, one a four-poster. One room has a dressing table and the other has an open clothes hanging system. One bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the other directly accesses the "Jack & Jill" shower-room.

CHILDREN'S BEDROOMS

The two children's bedrooms (the first floor "bunk" room, and the second floor bedroom) each have two single beds, but are furnished and intended for children. Not suitable for adult guests.

OUTSIDE

Outside is an unfenced patio area with teak garden furniture, leading directly onto the Estate’s parkland – perfect for a frisbee, yoga or refreshing your ball skills. In summer, our rafters are privileged to host returning (and Protected) Housemartins – with their associated nest mess!

Private facilities are shared with the other Estate properties: There is a tennis court. There are a number of mown paths to guide you through the shared private parkland, extending to rights of way across neighbouring agricultural land. Open from May to September (inclusive) only, the unattended, heated, outdoor swimming pool is reservable daily for a session*(see “rules”) - please bring your own swimming towels.

Where you’ll be

Suffolk, England, United Kingdom

This part of Suffolk is an AONB - a draw for coastal birds, and rich with heritage.
Bawdsey village is near the mouth of the River Deben. From May to October the Deben Ferry carries foot passengers between Bawdsey Quay and Felixstowe Ferry where there is a boat club and yard, a pub and Fish & Chips opportunities. Up river, The Ramsholt Arms is a popular pub, not least for its river views and walking routes. A string of Martello Towers, remnants of WWII defences, and Bawdsey Radar Museum are all within walking distance. Local attractions include Sutton Hoo (famed burial site), The Suffolk Punch Trust (working horses), Snape Maltings (for its Concert Hall) and Orfordness Nature Reserve.
