This house located in Dupont circle is perfect for visitors that are planning to stay in D.C. for short or long terms. There’s always something to do in this neighborhood. You can walk to Dupont circle (about 10-minute walk from Mark’s place) and enjoy people watching while fighting the summer heat with a cookie-dough-and-cinnamon ice cream cone from Larry’s. This vibrant neighborhood is filled with restaurants, bars, shops, museums, and more. Visit the Phillips Collection (15-minute walk) and contemplate Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party. Walk around the neighborhood and let your sight succumb to the terminating vistas of D.C.—just a few blocks from Mark’s house you can see the White House at the end of the street. I recommend that you walk uphill toward Columbia Heights and make a stop at Meridian Hill Park. You’ll be surprise with the many things that this park has to offer. Mark’s house is as eclectic as the neighborhood where is situated. Mark’s house is filled with great artwork which later I found out was made by one of his daughters. I liked that many of the guests in the house were staying for several months because this helped to socialize with other guests and plan outings to explore the city together. Also, I vividly remember the smell of popcorn and wine—for me, it was box wine, I am not that fancy— during movie nights organized by some of the guests. We would watch from old French and Italian films to Larrain’s most recent work. If, however, you are seeking to have those quiet moments after a long day outside, I recommend that you go up to the house rooftop and admire the beautiful sunsets—and why not, have a glass of wine of your choice. I was very pleased with this rental. I have used AirBnB for years now, and what made this place different from others was Mark’s overall flexibility and willingness to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Consider this place for your next trip. Over.

Very enjoyable stay. House is as described. Location very good - about 20 minutes' walk to World Bank, White House. Good access to shops, cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, bars in close proximity (eg within 2 to 5 mins walk, and more choice available on 14th Street, about 5-10 mins walk away). House is comfortable and feels like a real home -- very different to a serviced apartment. Mark was easy to communicate with, and I would happily stay here again on another visit to DC.

I loved my stay at Mark's house just off Dupont Circle. Mark is a great host. He promptly responds to e-mails and any other inquiries, is gracious in helping you to negotiate the house and the surrounding neighborhood…..and he is a charming, funny guy to boot. The house is a historic property, updated with all the comforts (internet, flatscreen, netflix, washer/dryer. espresso machine etc), but still maintaining the charm and character of an older property. The neighborhood is trendy, busy and charming. Close to bus and metro, wonderful neighborhood shops, restaurants, supermarkets and small boutiques….everything is in easy walking district. Mark tries to pick interesting international tenants….and during my stay we had a radiologist from Switzerland, a forester from the Netherlands, a banker from the World Bank, and a lawyer from DC. The talk around the kitchen table was one of the best parts of my stay in Washington. I can give this house and host the highest rating, would recommend it to a friend, and would stay there again without hesitation.

Everything about Mark's house exceeded expectations. First of all, Mark is an amazing host. Midway through my stay I misplaced something of significant value, and Mark took quick action to make sure it did not impact my trip. I was in town for several days of business, and this roomy and comfortable house allowed each guest plenty of space to be on his own or to spend time together if they chose. It' a very comfortable, clean, and respectful household. 5 stars!

Mark's house is a great place to live. The location is extremely convenient for anyone working in the city. The house is also surrounded by a lot of good restaurants and cafes, as well as nice bars to go out during the week end. The house is very cosy, spacious and really quite. Housemates can also use the big kitchen and the living room to have dinner together or have a chat. This creates a very nice environment, I really felt at home. Mark has been really helpful to arrange my stay in DC. Even though he wasn't here when I arrived, he was always reachable if I had some questions or issues. He also took time to make us discover the neighbourhood and to organise some dinners at home with the other housemates. Overall, I can only recommend Mark's house for someone looking for a quite, well located and friendly place to stay in DC!

Mark’s house is a large, beautiful 19th c. row house with tons of original elements and a great feel. Mark himself is urbane and genial, and seems to really enjoy providing a temporary living space for worldly itinerants. He rents out most of the rooms in the house, so there’s a fair chance other guests will be around at any one time, but the house is accommodating and there’s not a space issue. (My stay, though, happened to include a few days when the house was almost empty, which was great.) The upstairs front bedroom is airy and light and was a pleasant place to hang out or work while looking out over city rooftops. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, though: hard but with lumps, strangely. I also stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which, although a bit dark, was quite comfortable. Mark especially brought in a little desk for me. The neighborhood is stellar: lovely architecture and close to several DC hubs of activity as well as public transportation.
