I hope this single and inaccurate review does not overshadow the mass of positive feedback I have acquired over the past few years. Danielle was a guest in my home for a week and made no mention of her discomfort in person, by phone or via Airbnb messenger. Had she mentioned she was uncomfortable in any way, I would have been more than happy to rectify.
A solution to the discomfort of the temperature would have been easily remedied with an AC window unit or fan. As for bugs, this is one hundred percent inaccurate. I have never seen a bug in my apartment nor has any guest, roommate or tenant ever complained of such. Again, had something been mentioned by Danielle, I could have investigated and treated the guest room. When asked how her first night was, she said things were great.
Under the “getting around” section of my listing, is an accurate description of where the closest subway station is and the many buses that can take you to other more popular lines. Danielle chose to disregard this section of the listing, booking a day before arrival.
What bothers me most about this review is how Danielle insulted my neighborhood. Clinton Hill is an extremely safe place. No one has ever had a problem here and I grantee no one ever will. Walking to the subway from my home is a safe venture. This neighborhood is home to a diverse group of individuals from many walks of life. I believe Danielle’s assessment of safety came from a very sheltered and prejudice place of small-minded white privilege.
Danielle was a very disrespectful guest that brought back numerous guests into my home after I posted “no guest, no exceptions.” When she asked me the first time, I said no but she had already snuck her boyfriend into her room. After this happened, she tried to manipulate me with guilt to change my mind. When I told her that I was uncomfortable with her guest, she tried to throw money at the situation… Yikes. The next day she brought home another guest.
I suspect her review is an act of retaliation that comes from an incredibly privileged girl who is used to getting her way. Danielle had just graduated from college and, unfortunately for us both, had the maturity of someone much younger with the communication skills of a millennial. I hope with more experience Dannielle grows up to be a woman of principle and integrity, which is what the world needs from its youth.
I find Danielle’s silence following a negative review a lazy and counterproductive way to interact with humans. Shame on those who do not have the courage to respectfully communicate then hide behind screens.
