Just 10 mins from Athlone, Hazel Hollows is in the heart of the Irish countryside, close to Lough Ree. 7 mins door-to-door Hodson Bay hotel; 20 mins to the spiritual centre of Ireland, Uisneach; 35 mins to the new Center Parcs; 1 hr 5 mins to Dublin, Galway & Limerick.

House sleeps 8 people; gated 1.25-acre gated site. High speed wifi & premium tv. Building in background = purpose-built snooker room with full-size snooker table. NO PARTIES, PETS, SMOKING OR VAPING INDOORS.NO DRUGS INC WEED!

The space
Hazel Hollows sleeps eight people very comfortably. It has three lovely double bedrooms and a small but comfortable sofa bed in the dining room. (This is a 'real' room with doors that can be closed.) The dining room is located on the other side of the hallway making it easy to watch tv and listen to music simultaneously in different rooms (if that's what you want to do). My parents built this large, wonderful home back in 1999 and it is designed for luxurious family get-togethers where everyone can be together without being on top of one another.

In Ireland, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and Hazel Hollows is no different. The living room has a lovely new log burner that burns logs, briquettes and coal. (Please bring them with you if you wish to use it.) The one thing we do have that is utterly unique is an entire building that my father built to house the full size snooker table. (That is the small building you can see in the background: it is not a neighbour's house!) You are very welcome to use it.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are extremely clean, beautiful and quiet and you will sleep soundly in this quiet house deep in the heart of the Irish countryside. (The neighbours are far enough away never to be heard as the house is located in the middle of a 1 1/4 acre site.) This holiday home features two bedrooms upstairs: both the upstairs master bedroom and second bedroom (with two twin beds) have en-suites. The third double bedroom is downstairs beside the largest bathroom, which has a full bath, shower and toilet. This has a wide door and is wheelchair-friendly. (There is a step up into the house via the front and back door, however.)

In addition, there is a high quality double sofa bed in the dining room suitable for 1-2 people. (That's two smaller people or one large one! Dimensions are 97cm wide x 170cm long. We have provided a deep memory foam mattress to lay on top of the original mattress and it does the trick.) The dining room has two doors: one leads to the kitchen and the other to the hallway. Each can be closed to create a private room. The closets in the upstairs bedrooms are extremely large and there is ample space for everyone's belongings, suitcases etc. There is a small kitchen table and chairs (suitable for four people) in the spacious kitchen, which means that everyone still has somewhere to eat if the occupant in the dining room is sleeping in.) The dining table seats eight to ten people comfortably.

BROADBAND AND TV
The wait is finally over and superfast (1000 mb) super high speed fibre broadband has finally arrived at our village. We also have the premium TV package, which offers 80 channels. Enjoy! The router is in the living room and the info you need is on the back. (It is also contained in the house manual.)

This vacation rental is perfect for anyone looking to stay in a very large, authentic Irish home that is finished to a high standard rather than the typical rental you might expect to find (or an anonymous, expensive and less spacious hotel room).

Guest access
Hazel Hollows is the perfect home away from home. Both spacious AND cozy, it is perfect for business travelers and holiday-makers who appreciate the many benefits of not staying in an hotel.

If you are a regular guest, we can arrange for you to let yourself in. However, it is much quicker and easier to settle into the house if we can quickly show you how everything works. So if this is your first time at Hazel Hollows, we will try to make sure that we are available to personally let you in.

The house manager, Della, lives locally. Della is your point of communication regarding gaining access to the house and dealing with any matters that arise during your visit. ACCESS TIME IS 4PM ONWARDS ON THE DAY OF ARRIVAL.
CHECKOUT IS 11AM ON DAY OF DEPARTURE. Once you have made your reservation we will send you a copy of the House Manual containing Della's contact info and you can let her know what time you'll be arriving. For security reasons we do not hand out information re: the lockbox until the morning of your arrival. (It's important to read the house manual ahead of time as it contains directions and other detailed info to do with the house.)

You will have access to the whole house, as well as the snooker room in the garden. We ask that you please ensure that all outer doors and windows (including those belonging to the snooker room) are locked and secure whenever you leave the property and that the heating is turned off in both buildings. (The house is priced extremely cheaply, and this is only made possible by the mindfulness of guests. If the running costs increase, we are forced to increase our rental fees.)

Other things to note
There is a small fridge in the kitchen and another fridge/freezer in the utility room just off the kitchen.

When walking out into the back garden, please use the door from the utility room as the french doors in the kitchen can be tricky to close.

The house manual explains how to work the heating system, etc. It is very detailed and will be emailed to you once we receive your reservation. Please print it and take it with you in case the hard copy at the house goes walkabout. The property manager is very near and very friendly and happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Hodson Bay hotel is just a two-minute drive away. The Hodson Bay Golf Course is about four minutes' away. Many people stay at Hazel Hollows when they are attending an event at the Hodson Bay hotel but, for one reason or another, don't wish to stay there. The house has all the coziness of a country bed and breakfast with none of the downsides (too many people in too small a space). There are two different TV services - the main one in the living room that offers a premium package of channels and the second one in the downstairs bedroom. There is also a small tv in the master bedroom upstairs that you can use to play DVDs. (You will find a selection at the house, along with books, records and games.)

Center Parcs opened in 2019. It is a 20-minute drive away.

The house IS available for longer-term lets (absolute max time length is 6 months). If you are looking for a longer-term let, please enter the actual dates you require and look at the total cost. That will be the price. We already factor in deep discounts into our pricing to help make the house affordable to renters, and no other discounts are available. (In fact, long-term renters are asked to contribute towards the running costs of the house during their stay, as well as a deep cleaning fee.)

Location

Athlone, Westmeath, Ireland

This vacation home is within minutes of Athlone, Co Westmeath, yet incredibly quiet and peaceful, nestled in the Irish countryside. The walk along our lane is exquisite: included in the photos are some shots I took on one particular day of views across the fields. The 12th century Rin Duin (Rindoon) castle, medieval ruins of St John's Hospital, St John's Wood and the national trailhead looped walk are all a short walk along our quiet country lane. We were surprised to find these sites down a lane that has barely any traffic.

The house is walking distance to Lough Ree, where you can fish, paddle, swim, canoe or sail ... or simply sit. If you are interested in water sports you can find everything you need here at the local water sports center. Sorry, but airbnb hides urls. (You will have to google it!)

FAMILIES - exciting news: the first Irish Center Parcs, 'Longford Forest', opens in Summer 2019. It is just a 35-minute drive from Hazel Hollows. (Tap in our postcode/zipcode - N37 HR22 and you can see for yourself.) The location of the new Center Parcs is in Newcastle Wood, so just Google that to see the drive.

I'm a Celtic mutt and world traveller who detests hotels, no matter how luxurious. I love the whole airbnb concept and it's my pleasure to share the wonderful home my parents built 20 years ago with people who are looking for much, much more than a tired vacation rental!
