Location location location! Christelle's flat is located in one of Brussel's nicest and most vibrant (according to me) neighbourhoods with plenty of bars, restaurants, etc. It boasts a wonderful view over Brussel's rooftops. The flat is fully equipped and includes plenty of nice little attentions. Christelle, and her friend Nathalie who received me upon arrival, are very friendly, knowledgeable, reactive, solutions-oriented, etc. etc. etc. Highly recommended.
The cost of this flat is absolutely exaggerated. After having spent three weeks in Christelle’s apartment, here are the positives and negatives. I should start by saying that it was my unpleasant surprise to notice that the previous reviews did not warn me of very blatant negatives, which are hardly all ascribable to a period of time immediately prior to my arrival. Positives: 1) Nice, spacious apartment with nice view over the roofs of Brussels; 2) Good mattress; 3) Very good location in terms of proximity to transport options, shops, restaurants, hospital and city center; 4) Very good internet connection and TV. Negatives: 1) Very strong smell of smoke permeated the whole apartment (every single room). Clearly an avid smoker/ avid smokers had been living in the apartment for a long continued period of time. In order to bare the smell, the windows had to stay constantly open, which meant hearing traffic constantly (see point 3)). Keeping in mind that it was my priority to eliminate the stench as much as possible, the entire period of 3 weeks as well as hiring a cleaning lady (who came 3 times) were necessary to mitigate the smell. This brings me to the next point. 2) A standard cleaning fee was charged, while no cleaning service was provided. I hired the cleaning lady independently. 3) The location of the apartment is/was (at the time of my booking) NOT the one shown on the Airbnb website. In fact the true location is situated one block further west, which corresponds to a very busy, noisy crossing. 4) This is an extra point which I can’t avoid mentioning even though it is really not in Christelle’s hands and concerns the apartment building: The elevator often smelled extremely strongly, once making it literally impossible to breathe. At this point I must state that I had excellent experiences in other Airbnb apartments located in Ixelles during the last 10 months and for much lower prices: very clean, full of all necessary accessories you might think of, even an emergency kit once and bus card... With this said, the positives could easily outweigh the negatives, but if and only if professional thorough cleaning is performed.
I never had the chance to meet Christelle, but she was super helpful and flexible with our short stay over the weekend. She met up with my friend to hand over the key and we could check out by simply leaving the key in the mailbox. The area was calm at night, the apartment was clean and had everything we needed. If you'd like a nice restaurant/bar we can really recommend The Black Sheep down the street. We have nothing to complain about whatsoever.
