- The Guesthouse:
Our charming one bedroom guesthouse has been enjoyed by family and friends for over ten years. If walls could talk, this quaint house would tell stories of new experiences, great memories and lasting friendships. Now it's time to share this little treasure with new friends to come. Built in 1847 our small building was used as a Schnapps-House for the local villagers. Almost 200 years later it was transformed into the cutest little guesthouse in Germany. The first floor is equipped with a living / dining area, a kitchenette and a simple bathroom with shower. The living area contains a sofa bed and can sleep up to two people. The kitchenette also offers all the necessities for enjoying a quick snack in between activities, including a microwave, fridge, sink, toaster, coffee maker, kettle as well as dishes, glasses and cutlery. A table and chairs are provided to enjoy your morning cup of coffee or a true German 'Brotzeit'. Your meals can be enjoyed at one of the six local restaurants (reachable within 50 steps - literally!). The second floor provides sleeping arrangements for two further guests including a large comfortable bed (200cm x 190cm((length))) and plenty of storage in a typical German 'Schrank'.
The doorway into the guesthouse is on the low side. Very tall people and some of us just average height need to remember to duck a bit.

- On-Site Owners:
Being on-site owners allows us to assist you with all of your travel arrangements. This also gives us the opportunity to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. If you need to call home to say you've arrived safely, just tell us and we will gladly let you use our phone - free of charge of course. We also offer bikes for taking in the beautiful Franconian scenery. Not to mention a GPS, a picnic basket, English guide books, movies and much much more are available upon request. But best of all we can provide you with valuable advice: We know which places are a must-see and which places can be skipped. We know the German dos and don'ts and are happy to share this information with you. And if you'd like to share your experiences or listen to ours, we'd be delighted to discuss these things over a glass of wine on the terrace. Of course if you prefer a quiet, private stay, our guesthouse is the ideal accommodation as it is enclosed within the main building's compound. Parking is available directly in front of the house.

- Our Little Village:
Prichsenstadt is located in the north of Bavaria in the region 'Unterfranken' (Lower Franconia). The city is equipped with many historical sites. The beautiful town gate settled in between two towers welcomes you when entering Prichsenstadt's main road. Driving through reminds everyone of a classic Disney fairytale. Also situated on the main road is an old-fashioned clock tower. The bells chime every fifteen minutes as if you were at a medieval fair. Two churches can be reached with a few steps and the clergy welcomes guests. The six local restaurants are all found on the same main road as the guesthouse. We definitely recommend walking over to enjoy a Schnitzel and one of the many local wines available - or satisfy your thirst with a cold beer. Between meals stop in at our town café - they serve the best homemade cakes in Bavaria! Many of these restaurants also offer exclusive wine tastings. The vineyards, too, are just a short walk away. The town consists of two bakeries, two banks with 24 hour ATMs, two butchers and a hair salon. The city takes pride in its historical background. You should definitely take advantage of the city tour (small fee) that depicts the town's oldest and most important buildings as well as many funny stories that go along with them. The tour is offered in English and is led by the 'Nachtwächter' (night-watchmen of Prichsenstadt). If you decide not to go on the tour, you can catch the 'Nachtwächter' every night at approx. 9 o'clock at one of the local restaurants. He sings a song and reminds the citizens of Prichsenstadt to take life easy and enjoy the wine - especially the Prichsenstadt wine. A mineral museum is also a fun attraction that our little town has to offer.
Prichsenstadt is also known for its great festivities. The 29th and 30th of April 2017 marks the annual Oldtimer Festival. On this week-end the main road is lined up with antique classic cars and can be enjoyed by guests while enjoying a Bratwurst. But the Winefest is our true highlight! Between the 9th and 12th of June 2017 many visitors from all over Germany gather to cimer Festival, parking for the guesthouse is relocated to parallel street about 150m away. There is no on-site parking at the guesthouse during these events.
Celebrate Lower Franconia's great taste in wine. A live band assures the party stays alive and we spend our day outside on the main street enjoying the music, the food and most of all the wine. The Winefest can get a bit loud, but we hope if you're visting us during that weekend you'll be out with us enjoying the party.
Things To Do Near and Far:
Day trips can be made to many great cities close by. Just to name a few Wurzburg (30 min), the capital of Lower Franconia, has beautiful castles from various eras - for example the Residence from the Baroque era modeled after the French Versailles (Maybe you know it from the Three Musketeers movie). Rothenburg ob der Tauben (45 min), the medieval walled city, is also a must-see. Bamberg (45 min) has the best beer around and a gorgeous city-center. Nürnberg (1 hr) is famous for its 'Christkindl Markt' and the WWII museums. Castell (10 min) is a very cute town built up on a mountain offering a beautiful view of the Franconian landscape. Geiselwind (15 min) is home of the Freizeitland amusement park. Mainfrankenpark (25 min) has many fun things to do, e.g. an IMAX, a cinema, a bowling alley and a casino. If you're here during the end of September the original Munich Oktoberfest (2 hrs) can't be missed! Frankfurt (2 hrs) is the financial capital of Europe and has some of the best shopping centers.
In addition to day trips, our cute cottage is also the ideal home base for travelling throughout Europe. Popular cities to visit are: Paris (6 hrs), Prague (3.5 hrs), Amsterdam (6 hrs), Salzburg (3 hrs), Vienna (5.5 hrs), Zurich (4 hrs), Berlin (4.5 hrs), Brussels (5 hrs), Cologne (3 hrs), etc. If you need help making any arrangements for both day trips and overnight journeys, we're happy to assist.

Guest access

You access the property thru the large gate at the main road. We are the large blue house and the gate will either be open before you arrive or we will provide the gate code. We usually close the large gate in the evening, but there is a small door in the large gate that you can come and go as you wish.
There is wifi on the property. You can access the wifi in the guesthouse and is suitable for small tasks as checking email, etc. We just ask that you do not use the wifi to stream. The wifi is not perfect....and can not be accessed thru the entire guesthouse. During the warmer months wifi is much better on the veranda so feel free to hang out there if you like.

Interaction with guests

As on site owners we are here to assist you in as much as needed. We are in the main house that is approx 50 feet from the guesthouse but there is still alot of privacy and quiet. We are always ready and willing to share a beer or glass of wine on the terrace and give advice on the what to see and what to skip.

Other things to note

There are clock tower chimes as well as church bells that are a part of our everyday life and the real charm of living in an old village. These bells are also very active and lively on Sunday mornings.....
Even though we do not allow smoking in the guesthouse....you may smoke freely on the property and also on the veranda. We will consider pets, but we ask that you do not allow the pets on the furniture in the guesthouse or on the second floor. There will be a 10 euro pet fee payable when you arrive.
The shower controls in the bathroom are reversed. Hot is Cold and Cold is Hot.
During the summer we do have a few very warm days. We provide lots of fans, ice and good advice on when to open and shut the windows....But unfortunately we cannot control the weather and the majority of us here in Germany do not have AC. We also provide cold beers to help in that situation.

This was a great place to stay and while we new nothing about Prichsenstadt before we arrived we were really glad we stayed there. The town is delightful and the accomodation perfect. Our thanks to our host Alison and we would love to go back again and spend more time there.

A wonderful welcome with cold beer after our long journey with two small children (no beer for the kids, but Alison did have a DVD and kinder surprise for them!). The guesthouse cottage was gorgeous- beautifully decorated, good facilities for self catering, comfortable beds and a perfect location. The village itself is wonderful- with bakery, butchers, playground all close by. Great place to stay enroute or a longer stay if you're exploring the area. Thank you Alison and family!

Alison's place is in a very cute town and we had a very quiet time staying in the cottage. There're a few nice touches in the house, including welcome message on a chalkboard and small fridge filled with drinks. The only things were the heaters were a bit slow to heat up and the living room was too small to fit three people in comfortably. We also had to pull out the sofa bed and set the mattress and bed sheet ourselves which was a bit of work. If you go to the Weingut Zum Storch Restaurant nearby make sure you try the beef noodles it's delicious!

Response from Alison:
Thank you for your review. We always like to get feedback on how we can make things more comfy! The Guesthouse is a very small but cozy place. We do always fold out the sofabed if guests either request it or if they arrive late. But as you arrived earlier than most, it is easier to for guests to make up the sofabed so they can make use of the living space.

I'm on a two week road trip across Bavaria and this was the one place that was a bit out of the way and was a little skeptical about...... however it was the best decision we could have made ! The pictures don't do it justice. It's a fairytale town with lovely little shops and restaurants. The cottage is just lovely and the host family are very kind and welcoming. There isn't *too* much to do there, but if you're looking to see real German countryside life, this is the place to go. You will not regret the visit!
