For the holiday-maker interested in what Golden Bay Hideaway has to offer, Kiwi Greenie may appear to be just another modern, professionally finished house with stunning views in a beautiful location. Of course everyone will notice some differences sooner or later, but those interested in environmental technology and smart building will find the differences go right down to the foundations.

Kiwi Greenie is designed with four major principles in mind: Energy efficiency, low maintenance/longevity, ease of construction and value for money. It takes eco-home design a step further and improves on the award-winning foundation achieved in Little Greenie. It may be modern, but it’s not about frills or fashion; and while it is unashamedly utilitarian, it’s definitely not drab or boring. It's a living, breathing home.

The closest restaurants and cafes are in Pohara, 15 min drive back toward Takaka, where there is also a mini supermarket which sells a range of food and wine.
The closest supermarket is in Takaka, about 25 km from our place.

We don't have internet facilities, but there is 3G/4G reception in the area if you bring your own device.

Our policy regarding children is:
Under 6 months with own bedding there is no charge
Over 6 months:
-If you bring your own cot and bedding there will be an $30 cleaning fee
-If we supply cot and bedding the normal rate of $30 per night per extra person applies
Our experience has shown that as soon as kids are crawling our cleaning services increase more than with adults, particularly with the large window areas we have in the houses. They use the same linen and hot water and that is why we apply the same fee.

Guest access
Each house is extremely private and surrounded by bush with views over Wainui Bay. There is a shared guest laundry at the big green shed and you are welcome to walk up/down the driveway to the road and beach. Depending on vacancies you may be able to view the other houses but please respect privacy of others and always ask us first.

Other things to note
In keeping with our environmental philosophy we use composting toilets.
Shared washing machine, dryer and washing liquid available at the big shed. Machines take 3 x $2 coins.
No dogs allowed.

Where you’ll be

Wainui Bay, Golden Bay, New Zealand

Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and adjacent to the Abel Tasman National Park, Wainui Bay has a slow pace of life with an abundance of natural beauty - perfect for a holiday retreat.
Many elements of New Zealand life the way it used to be, are still remaining in Wainui Bay. There’s a small family run farm, lots of native birds and no shops and people still have time to go to the beach.
When it comes to natural beauty, Wainui Beach is one of Golden Bay's finest examples and is within easy walking distance of Golden Bay Hideaway. It's a great beach for swimming or exploring the rock pools and sandspit. Standup paddleboarding or kayaking are highly recommended!!
If you pick your tides, a rock-hopping trek to Taupo Point is an adventurous highlight with an old Maori pa site, historical links to Abel Tasman and the first landing of Europeans in New Zealand. Taupo Point is a special place and is considered to have sacred value to the local community and iwi. Beautiful sheltered coves and small islands surround it - dolphins, seals, sea birds and schools of fish are often found here. and of course there are the well-formed walking trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.
