What an absolutely magical AirBnB!! Jennifer, the host, was the most gracious, going above and beyond to ensure our stay was more than comfortable. She responded promptly to our inquiries before and during our visit, and was able to meet all of our needs (ie: arranged transportat…
My husband and i found blue hole gardens on Airbnb while searching for naturally beautiful locations to have our wedding ceremony and reception. Upon viewing photos and doing a little research, we reached out to Jennifer to let her know we are interested and to see if the garden …
Response from Jennifer:
Amber, I was informed about all the details concerning your stay at Blue Hole Gardens, and I profoundly regret having trusted you at all. At Blue Hole we have had so many wonderful guests and beautiful weddings , that I have perhaps been lulled into a respect and trust that I give too freely . The wedding that you inflicted on my team seems in every respect the very reflection of who you ,and your wedding party , are . Suffice it to say you brought confusion , disorganisation , violent bickering to our home ; a member of your party had the audacity to cut down every orchid flower in my garden on some insensitive whim ; your lied to me about having a wedding planner, as chaos proved , and quite frankly, your stay is considered by my team to have been a horrific experience. You did not even have the grace to remove your wedding decorations, thinking , I suppose , that because you rented a cottage , you could do as you please in my garden , which is open to the public , and for which people do indeed pay an entry fee. Sharna was very right to inquire about the funds necessary for cleaning up after a wedding that was supposed to be for eighty people. Cleaning up after a wedding is not her job, but yours. You shirked legitimate payment for extra services , even when this was pre-negotiated , as in the renting of our neighbor's field for the parking of your guests' cars, or the correct payment to Sharna for cooking for twenty people. You cannot on a whim impose a pre-wedding party for people that are not the six guests in the house, and expect my team to work for you for free. That is cheating and a form of abuse. May I just say for the record , that you paid $10 U.S. to Sharna for making that meal. You are very lucky that she had the kindness to do that service for you for such a miserable fee. Despite the poor behaviour of you and your guests, which I could outline in greater detail , I still imagined that apologies would come my way. I remember your tears of gratitude that you didn’t have pay for exclusive rights to the garden on your wedding day, which is a normal practice , as the garden is open to the public; your thanks seemed so sincere . Where did that gratitude go? I wonder. I will be much more thorough in the preparation and selection of my guests in the future , as I do not wish to be swept into the personal nightmares and aggressive attitudes of disloyal clients. You will note that I did not wish to destroy your reputation on AIRBNB , out of respect for your husband , who showed some kindness to my team, and I thank him for that. cordially, Jennifer Chatelain
I initially was not going to leave a review because my experience was simply my experience and I did not feel the need to let it sway anyone else’s decision. But things changed when I was left a review for not wanting to stay. Pros. 1. It is definitely the real Jamaica and I LO…
Response from Jennifer:
Indeed, one really wonders what authorises a person to give a comprehensive review of a property that was visited for less than 45 minutes...but the writer does not hesitate to announce to all readers that the owner of Blue Hole will surely reimburse anyone who arrives and then wishes to leave ( wherever did she get that idea?) that the stone steps leading to the house are the equivalent of a ladder, that the cottage is run down and for people who want rough it ...all of which is defamatory and basically just nonsense. Clients such as these , apparently overflowing with love for our manager Sharna, walk off without a thought for the food bill, nor a thought for who might have toiled all morning to prepare two welcoming meals proudly displayed at their arrival...nor a thought for the horrified reaction and humiliation of our team who all read the above AIRBNB review on their smart phones . It is also very troubling to me as the owner to read a review accusing our home of not being sufficiently luxurious by clients who are not paying luxury prices in the first place....but who nevertheless have the privilege of staying in a home of exceptional comfort and beauty next to what our village considers a sacred sanctuary: The Blue Hole. Significantly,no mention is made of this central and most important aspect of the property, nor of the incredible gardening work which weaves together the whole property in an intricate (Website hidden by Airbnb) accomplishment due to dedication and not entirely to " Mother Nature that did well ". But never mind ! Guests like these end up in the standardised cement paradises which cluster along the beaches of Jamaica and are called Resorts, where airconditioning is necessary due to the intense reverberation of the sun on the cement , and where the internet connection relatively stable .After all this is as it should be. Beauty --and luxury--are in the eyes of the beholder :-)
