We are located in front of the Russian church Plplan Jam, in a neoclassical building built in the mid 19th century. The Italian Max and his wife Mariam have restored this house in an ancient and modern style at the same time. You can taste the flavor of old Gyumri but also the scent of the Italian style. We offer rooms with private bathroom, breakfast and homemade meals to order with Italian and Armenian cuisine, a shop where you can buy our designer souvenirs, a bar, a private garden.

The space
This building was the historical residence of General Preskuryakov during the war between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. The wooden ceiling has been restored with an original aspect, the tuff stones have been cleaned and brought back to life. There are some original neoclassical frescoes that are over 150 years old. You can also admire the large arches that rise up to the ceiling over 4 meters high. The furnishings are minimalist style, you will find some references to the Tsarist period and vintage elements of the Soviet Union.

Where you’ll be

Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia

Gyumri is the only city in Armenia cosmopolitan since birth. Until a few decades ago, in fact, several "foreign" districts coexisted. The architecture of the intertwined streets of Slabodka, the Russian quarter, is a continuous succession of styles overlapping each other, from neoclassical to art nouveau, from constructivism to Soviet modernism. Staying in Slabodka is like being in the Armenian district of a large European city: there is a different air around it, the ancient stones in black and red tuff murmur the never extinct Armenian past. Walking through these streets, in the distance you see majestic Mount Aragats which dominates the city from its 4,100 meters. We pass by the small and graceful Russian Orthodox church Plplam Jam. On the other side you can see the sculpture of the mother Armenia and the black castle that "protect" the bloody and still closed Turkish-Armenian border. We meet elderly people walking, grandmothers embroidering, some hunters returning from their work, street vendors with the car trunk full of fish, women washing and spreading the new wool of sheep, old women drying fruit, children kicking balls. The light just before sunset, the sound of birds in spring, the deafening silence of the white of the snow, the wind beating gusts on the metal roofs: Slabodka is a time machine still fully functional.
