Fish Eagle Cottage is an escape from the air and noise pollution of Kampala and is only 30 minutes from Entebbe airport. Fresh lake breezes keep mosquitoes at bay, stunning lake views, forest and grassland walks, bird life and sunsets around this independent and eco-friendly cottage. Great for yoga overlooking the Lake, using the exercise bike or just hanging out in the hammocks. For nature lovers! The isolated location and our attention to Covid-19 measures makes the cottage a safe place.

The space
You will have exclusive use of this fully furnished eco-friendly cottage with three double bedrooms and two modern bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped and the living room spacious with high open-beamed ceiling. There is a large front veranda with hammocks and 180-degree views of the lake, a natural rock-faced veranda at the back, and attractive garden with BBQ and fire pit (charcoal and wood provided). The cottage is self-sufficient with solar powered electricity and water heating, and rainwater catchment. From this peaceful and private perch, watch for fish eagles and 130 other species of birds, look out for otters in the lake, and at night see the lights of fishermen in the bay below the cottage.

Entebbe, Central Region, Uganda

The land is located at the tip of a peninsula on Lake Victoria. While the surrounding area is rural, we are within a very short walk of a small, attractive but quiet beach resort with a swimming pool and restaurant, and where you can request a boat for hire for fishing and visiting the islands. The chimpanzee conservation island of Ngamba is also not far off. Horse riding, tennis and volleyball are available in the area. There are some excellent restaurants in Entebbe (most notably for Ethiopian, Indian and European cuisine, or a pizza by the lake).

As we are 10 km from a supermarket, you may want to stock up before you arrive (we provide good breakfast ingredients). Carrefour as you enter Entebbe is the best stocked; there's also a good supermarket on left immediately after the traffic lights as you enter Abaita Ababibiri, less than one km on towards Entebbe after the elevated roundabout at which otherwise you would turn off for Garuga. The usual local choices of fruit and veg are available daily at the roadside market just after turning off onto the Garuga Road.

I searched hard and wide to find this idyllic spot on Lake Victoria, put thought into developing my own home as well as Fish Eagle Cottage, and hope you will appreciate the location, my home-grown produce and our approach to sustainable living. My style is relaxed, I enjoy meeting new people but also respect their privacy; I use AirBNB when I myself travel. I also speak Spanish, French and Kiswahili.

During your stay

The cottage is completely independent and private, and the space is not shared with other guests. The owner has a separate house on the same land, out of sight, but he or any of the friendly staff are on hand to assist you.
