A bright English Basement apartment with PARKING and LAUNDRY near the METRO, Trinity Univ., and Catholic Univ. with easy downtown access and lots of amenities. Ideal for couples seeking a low-key space as well as those visiting the nearby universities.

The space

This is an above-ground English Basement apartment in our (green - solar powered!) home with it's own entrance, half kitchen (coffee maker, kettle, refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven. NO OVEN OR STOVE) , laundry, queen bed, and bathroom. Worry not- there are lots of windows that provide a surprising amount of natural light and both front and back entrances. It is a lovely space that has everything a traveler could need.

Guest access

When you stay with us, you will have the entire basement level to yourself as well as access to a shared patio in the back yard. There is free street parking (and always plenty of space), tv/cable, wireless, and all of the basic amenities.

Interaction with guests

Whether you see us is entirely up to you. We (married couple) are happy to provide insight into the city and advice, but if you would prefer to be left to your own devices, we won't get in your way.

Other things to note

We have a cat and a mini goldendoodle. Neither are permitted in the apartment, but they do live in the house (and the dog is allowed in the backyard) if you have severe allergies or aversions. Both our home and the neighborhood are 100% LGBTQ friendly!

When we say "no smoking," we mean "no smoking in or near the house." I don't mind if you smoke (tobacco or marijuana, as that is legal in DC), but if you do so right under the porch or within about 20 ft of the house, it results in the smoke filtering up through the entire home and that is a very real problem. You have to put significant distance between yourself and the home if you wish to smoke.

We had a lovely stay with Elizabeth and Matt! They were great hosts, hugely accommodating, super friendly and full of great tips for Washington and beyond. The apartment really was beautiful, we loved the aesthetic, it had everything we needed (including a washing machine and dryer!) and was very comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for us, parking right outside the house and just a short walk from the Metro which will take you directly into the city. There are also good places to eat and drink within walking distance of the house. Don't hesitate to book your stay in Washington with these guys!

Elizabeth's place is a jewel. It's in the middle of Brookland, a charming neighborhood hear Catholic University. Her apartment is spotless. She welcomes guests with an assortment of teas, bottled water, and snacks. I have stayed with her before; she knows I like cream in my coffee, and she always has a fresh pint of organic half and half in the refrigerator for me. I feel like a treasured guest. Her apartment is private with a private entrance. It's a block from a wonderful neighborhood bistro, Brookland's Finest. A block the other way a new wine bar is going in. From her apartment, you can walk to CVS and a great organic grocery, Yes! (name of the grocery). The Brookland Metro stop, with myriad shops, restaurants, arts attractions, is about 5 blocks away. Elizabeth leaves guests maps and ideas for a D.C. visit. The Internet is perfect, the linens are fluffy. I have been staying there for multiple visits to D.C. over almost two years. Elizabeth's place is wonderful.

This place is perfect for a couple or someone traveling solo. The wifi allowed us to easily watch Netflix along with the vast assortment of DVDs. Uber Eats delivers so it was perfect for if you arrive late but crave a bite to eat. Not far from downtown. In a quiet neighborhood.

Nice, clean place close to the metro. In a cute neighborhood, but also very easy to get downtown. Elizabeth was a great host, no problems at all. I would definitely stay again.

This Air B & B is clean and conveniently located to the metro. The space is just like the photos depict it on the Air B&B page. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to D. C. The neighborhood has some fun restaurants to visit.

We're a young married couple with a curmudgeonly cat and playful mini goldendoodle (who are not permitted in your space). We've lived in DC for the last 6 years and would love to share the city with you!

Matt is a researcher/stats wiz for a consulting firm and Elizabeth is an attorney in healthcare. We try to travel as much as possible and are definitely open to suggestions of places to go if you have any. Elizabeth understands Spanish better than you would think, but still speaks like a terrified child. She is working on it though and is happy to work with native Spanish speakers.

We (and the neighborhood) are also 100% LGBTQ friendly.

About the house:

We have rented the apartment out previously to long term tenants, but we want to be able to use the space as a guest room for our many visiting friends, so this model works better for us at this point. We also just completed a complete gut and renovation of the apartment's bathroom, so everything there is brand new and sparkling.

As hosts, we want you to be comfortable above all. If you would prefer to interact with us, we would be thrilled to give you suggestions and help you plan your days. If you want some time to yourself, we will happily stay in our space upstairs. It is entirely up to you.

We hope that you give us the opportunity to prove to you that DC is a friendly town!
