A bright English Basement apartment with PARKING and LAUNDRY near the METRO, Trinity Univ., and Catholic Univ. with easy downtown access and lots of amenities. Ideal for couples seeking a low-key space as well as those visiting the nearby universities.
This is an above-ground English Basement apartment in our (green - solar powered!) home with it's own entrance, half kitchen (coffee maker, kettle, refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven. NO OVEN OR STOVE) , laundry, queen bed, and bathroom. Worry not- there are lots of windows that provide a surprising amount of natural light and both front and back entrances. It is a lovely space that has everything a traveler could need.
When you stay with us, you will have the entire basement level to yourself as well as access to a shared patio in the back yard. There is free street parking (and always plenty of space), tv/cable, wireless, and all of the basic amenities.
Interaction with guests
Whether you see us is entirely up to you. We (married couple) are happy to provide insight into the city and advice, but if you would prefer to be left to your own devices, we won't get in your way.
Other things to note
We have a cat and a mini goldendoodle. Neither are permitted in the apartment, but they do live in the house (and the dog is allowed in the backyard) if you have severe allergies or aversions. Both our home and the neighborhood are 100% LGBTQ friendly!
All guests must complete verification with a government-issued ID prior to booking.
When we say "no smoking," we mean "no smoking in or near the house." I don't mind if you smoke (tobacco or marijuana, as that is legal in DC), but if you do so right under the porch or within about 20 ft of the house, it results in the smoke filtering up through the entire home and that is a very real problem. You have to put significant distance between yourself and the home if you wish to smoke.
We're a young married couple with a curmudgeonly cat and playful mini goldendoodle (who are not permitted in your space). We've lived in DC for the last 6 years and would love to share the city with you!
Matt is a researcher/stats wiz for a consulting firm and Elizabeth is an attorney in healthcare. We try to travel as much as possible and are definitely open to suggestions of places to go if you have any. Elizabeth understands Spanish better than you would think, but still speaks like a terrified child. She is working on it though and is happy to work with native Spanish speakers.
We (and the neighborhood) are also 100% LGBTQ friendly.
About the house:
We have rented the apartment out previously to long term tenants, but we want to be able to use the space as a guest room for our many visiting friends, so this model works better for us at this point. We also just completed a complete gut and renovation of the apartment's bathroom, so everything there is brand new and sparkling.
As hosts, we want you to be comfortable above all. If you would prefer to interact with us, we would be thrilled to give you suggestions and help you plan your days. If you want some time to yourself, we will happily stay in our space upstairs. It is entirely up to you.
We hope that you give us the opportunity to prove to you that DC is a friendly town!
