100 yr. old 3 bed, 2 bath, recently renovated home. H St. or Union Market 3 blks, 5blks to Red Line Metro at Gallaudet/NY Ave. (1 stop Union Station). Close to all that Capitol Hill and H Street Corridor have to offer. All above grade -no spelunking

The space

Our home is over 100 years old, but we have lovingly restored it without gutting the charm out of it. You'll find all the modern amenities in a classic wrapper. Combining marble, glass, granite, stainless, original hearts of pine wood flooring to create warm and beautiful spaces. Stay in a piece of history in a city steeped in history.

We have a large dining table that seats 8+ and lots of board and card games (Scrabble, Pictionary, Boggle, Monopoly, Sorry, Jenga, cards, etc.). We've set up our home to facilitate good times with family and/or friends playing games and eating and drinking after long days of sight seeing. We strive to give you memories to take home from your time here...not just of the sights, but of the time you spent with the 3 most important F's in the world: Family, Friends and FUN!

Our home is the upper two floors...there is no basement dwelling here unlike MANY of the spaces advertised here (which are actually 50% or more below grade). Also, our home is much LARGER than most of the homes advertised here. Most of the homes advertised here are well UNDER 1200 sq ft and OUR HOME IS WELL OVER 1900 sq ft. (according to DC tax assessor). Many of the DC homes listed on this site could fit on our first floor alone. It's your vacation, don't you deserve a little SPACE?

Guest access

Guests will have the run of the main home on floors 1 and 2 (there is a separate apartment on the garden level that is used by me and my family on occasion). The home has 3 bedrooms upstairs (2 queen beds and one full bed) and one queen sofa Sleeper on the first floor. It also has two full baths. Finally, it has two 46" big screen TVs with Blue Ray/DVD players and Cable, broadband wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen, and outdoor deck and patio with gas grill.

Interaction with guests

We can interact as much as our guests would like to interact with us. We have a second home about an hour away and a guest apartment below the home that we sometimes stay in. If we are there we can interact personally if the guests would like to. Otherwise we are quite responsive to text/email/phone for questions and/or advice. English is our native tongue, but between us we speak French, German and a bit of Spanish. We love showing off our city and the many sights, sounds, and aromas you can find in it. Let us help you plan a day according to your likes, interests, and the amount of time you have available.

Other things to note

I enjoy helping fellow travelers. Life is like a giant book and if you don't travel, you've read only one chapter.

Our host was very quick with all communication. We were made to feel very welcome. The house itself was extremely clean and homely. It is in a very good location, only 15 minutes walk to Union Station. Perfect for our small group. Thank you Greg.

Greg's place is the most well-stocked Airbnb we have stayed in. There is plenty of cookware to use, as well as plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, and bath towels. The grill works perfect and the patio area is comfy. The place is a short walk from the NoMa Metro station, and also a short walk from Harris Teeter(local grocery). As far as the walk goes, I would recommend staying off Florida Ave, and using Orleans and M street to get to the Metro. The former has a lot of traffic and is very close to the street, the latter goes through the neighborhood and is much more scenic and quiet. The house is historic, so it can be creaky. If you're a light sleeper, I would definitely recommend bringing some ear plugs to sleep with. The beds were stiff, which was uncomfortable for my husband and me, but for my parents it was perfect, just depends on your preference. The communication with Greg was great! He is an accommodating, flexible host. We would definitely stay here again! We had a great time in D.C.

Greg's home was a fantastic base for our group of 7 to visit the sights of Washington DC. The house is in an up and coming area with shops and restaurants nearby. Getting around is easy with über or public transport but we liked walking - less than 40 minutes brisk walk to the Capitol. The house was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the parking space a bonus. Greg was a great host and I recommend his place!

We loved this home. It was exactly what we wanted. The quirkiness, the old feel (but with modern conveniences). The location is in an up and coming area and so convenient. All the places we wanted to visit were a short Uber ride away. Our host explained everything perfectly so we had no issues getting in and getting settled. They even had maps available in the home and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We would highly recommend this host and this house.

Gregs older charming home is close to a main road with numerous sirens occurring throughout the night. The yard could use attention. We had a bit of an issue with the smell of gas when we arrived however Greg came to check it out the next day. He lives a few hours away. We think a control for the stove was left on slightly before we got there. It may have been something at the neighbours. Regardless, the odor was soon gone the next day. The home was generally comfortable. The upstairs bathroom could use a grab bar for older persons. There is a steep staircase to reach the bedrooms. The use of Uber was great. Taco restaurant a few doors away was delicious. Union Market is within walking distance.

Response from Greg:
We live just over a mile from the world famous U.S. Capitol Rotunda and the National Mall and with that kind of proximity to the important sites of DC comes the inherent noises of a very bustling city. We sometimes find that our guests from smaller towns and cities don't understand that these are simply the sounds of city life. You cannot be close to the Capitol or the Metro stations or Union Market and expect to hear nothing, but crickets when you go to sleep at night. While we regret any diminishment of enjoyment that these city sounds may have played, we love or location close to the heartbeat of the city and wouldn't trade it for the world. Regarding the odor you mentioned, my neighbor had applied some polyurethane to his garden furniture and the smell was gone by the time I went to check it out less than 12 hours after you reported it. Our gardener came the same afternoon you checked out and did some yard clean-up and I apologize for any inconvenience the yard may have caused you during your brief stay. I sincerely hope your trip wasn't too hampered by these things and hope you'll stay with us again if you ever visit DC. Thanks for staying with us and I wish you safe travels wherever you go!
