A bright and well kept shared flat in the heart of Hong Kong. One block from MTR, major bus routes, tram, and taxi services. Owner lives nearby.

- Wanchai Private East Room

The space

A bright and spacious apartment located in a walk-up building near Wan Chai's wet market (food market). Conveniently located in the heart of Hong Kong within one block of the MTR light rail station and a stone's throw from major bus routes, trams, and taxi services. Everything, and I mean everything, is at your doorstep.

Expect convenience and a relaxed place to spend the night in Hong Kong. The apartment is shared, but if you're looking for a quality place to rest during your time here - look no further. Your own door and key - come and go at your own convenience.

The apartment includes:
- full kitchen (sink, fridge, microwave, stove, water boiler, dishes)
- shared living area (sofa, coffee table, chairs)
- shared bathroom (toilet, shower, sink, toiletries - towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, toothpaste, and toilet paper)
- bedroom (double size bed, wardrobe, mirror, bookshelf)
- AC unit / heater
- hair dryer
- iron and ironing board
- wifi (500mbps connection thru Open Mesh MR1750 dual-band 6-antenna router)

Toiletries provided as well. Laundry and food market at the foot of the building. Owner lives nearby and a small cleaning fee is charged for each stay.

Come enjoy the Wanchai Private East Room!

Guest access

Share an apartment; meet someone new! Your own private room (with lock) in Hong Kong with a bed, wardrobe, living area, kitchen, and bathroom. Rooftop access for smoking or chilling out.

One thing to remember is this is a walk-up building, so you will learn to love the steps - depending on your length of stay.

Interaction with guests

I will provide self-entry directions to and into the apartment. These will include things such as:
- arrival
- departure
- house notes
- food recommendations (see my Airbnb 'Guidebook')
- HK market guide
- SIM card suggestions
- my contact info

Occasionally our schedules will align, so I am able to meet you at the apartment. I've noticed most people prefer the self-entry thing. I live nearby and have someone available to help should there be any issues.

Other things to note

Living in Hong Kong is quite small for many foreign guests. It is something most of us must get accustomed to. If you have any questions about relative size, etc - please do not hesitate to ask.

This is a shared 2-bedroom apartment. Common spaces and bathroom are shared.

This is a walk-up building — there is no elevator.

I want all my potential guests to be 100% satisfied with their arrangements before booking.

Much like camping: Please leave the place cleaner than how you found it.

1. Keep the noise level down late at night.
2. Nothing too illegal i.e. no hard drugs or stolen property.
3. Break it; you buy it.
4. Clean up after yourself.
5. Make it into the toilet.
6. Lose the key? Pay for a lock and locksmith ($500hkd).
7. NO SMOKING. There is a roof top 2 floors up you are more than welcome to use. I charge a $1500hkd fee for smoking in the apartment. Some people just do not understand – there is to be ZERO smoking inside the unit. I will follow up with damages.

This is my very first Airbnb experience in Hong Kong and it was one-of-a-kind! I come to Hong Kong a lot and I used to stay in hotels; something you don't get from hotels is the human touch; John's place is located right in the community, and the roof was just two floors up, which opened a totally different side of Hong Kong to me! The apartment is simple yet it got everything; it gave me enormous satisfaction when I could use the the fine kitchen for coffee in the morning and oven-food for lunch/dinner (was in business this time). The co-tenants were very nice people too. John undoubtedly offered great hospitality; he gave swift and efficient answers whenever I texted him. The whole experience made me love the city more. Cheers!

Thank Senzeni for the review. This is especially welcome as you're living in Shenzhen, so it's good to have a local foreigners view of the place. Let me know next time you're in Hong Kong.

John's apartment is the perfect spot to stay in Hong Kong. I originally booked the room for 2 weeks, but I ended up staying there for over a month. John is a really nice guy and it was very easy to communicate with him. Every request or questions, he answered within a few hours and he always did everything to make my stay even nicer. The apartment is pretty convenient and "western" for Hong Kong. From what I have heard from other people telling me about their accommodation in Hong Kong, the apartment offers high standard for a good price. Of course it is not huge, that's Hong Kong, but you don't feel cramped, it is clean (there comes a cleaning lady several times during the week) and the location of the apartment can't be any better for sight seeing and experiencing Hong Kong. The street where the apartment is located can be a bit shocking the first time, but as soon as you get into the apartment you will feel home and after a while the area is actually pretty interesting as it is more the original and traditional part of Hong Kong. I can absolutely recommend this location either for just a few days for sightseeing or long term for an internship or any other work experience.

Great location for transportation. It's on the 5th floor. If you climb up, must pay more attention for your own safety. It will be a little dusky.

Response from John:
Thanks for the review Kathy. For future guests: The apartment is located on the 4th floor (G/1/2/3/4). Depending on your country of origin if there is ground floor or not. Here in Hong Kong we use ground floors. Either way counted – there are 4 flights of stairs to ascend. The stairs to the apartment are very safe. Hong Kong is extremely safe. I'm not sure the safe dusky description.

I am an Architect out of Seattle and Hong Kong. I have built projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Hong Kong — as well as the United States.

I frequently travel and enjoy the flexibility Airbnb provides in sharing my place in Hong Kong as well experiencing others' in far away locales. I explore the world, meet people, and observe foreign cultures. I pride myself as a great host and have an eye for details. My goal is to provide the same experience as what I would expect to receive.
