Hello, Marco here :).
First up, Rita and her family still lead a traditional Maltese way of life. They really add value to the experience as through them you can get immersed in typical Maltese village life. We try to offer a wholesome experience, not just an place to sleep.
As to me now. A software engineer by profession, I felt the lack of interaction with people. Airbnb provides me with the opportunity to do this, to share the Maltese spirit with the people I host. It also allows me to deliver a great service, something which really enthuses me :) I manage the house with my friend Dr. Christian Colombo, a lecturer in computer science at the university of Malta.
I didn't choose to rent out just any house. But I choose one in the midst of true Maltese character on purpose. I wish to share the beauty of my people with others. The character of the old part of Zabbar simply encapsulates traditional Malta.
