Large and light-filled bedroom with double bed, in spacious, clean apartment. On quiet street overlooking the widest canal in Amsterdam. Steps to the historic centre; cafe's, shops, restaurants around the corner. Great for business travellers.

The space

Large, light filled bedroom with double bed, in spacious and clean apartment overlooking the widest canal in Amsterdam. Many days, more boats than cars pass by!

Steps to the cute Jordaan and historic centre, about 10 minutes' walk to the Anne Frank house, less than 10 minutes by bus or tram from Central Station, van Gogh museum and other attractions. Bars, restaurants and shops around the corner, Westerpark with its green spaces and trendy artistic spots (jazz club, cinema, restaurants, galleries....) is just a few blocks away, and Amsterdam's latest trendy spot - de Hallen - is also nearby. Shopping street around the corner, and several markets on different days of the week within 10 minutes' walk.

The apartment is about 100m sq and the bedroom is about 15m sq. From the bedroom you have direct access to the large, south-facing balcony, where you can have breakfast, coffee or just sit and relax.

At the corner there is a bike shop, and just a little further along you can rent an electric-powered boat and glide along the canals of Amsterdam.

A healthy breakfast is included in the price. It's prepared by 8am and ready for you to help yourself. Let me know any food preferences. Vegans, gluten free, etc happily accommodated, with sufficient notice.

I believe that travel should be accessible and comfortable. My price is typically set below that of a double room in a hostel near the city centre, and it's much quieter and nicer! Due to a regulation from my landlord, I can't accept tourists, but people visiting Amsterdam for work, study etc are welcome.

Apartment is on the third floor with an elevator, building is wheelchair accessible. Central heating makes it cosy in winter, and big windows open for fresh breezes in summer.

Guest access

You have access to the whole apartment except my bedroom.

Crisp clean sheets and nice fresh towels provided. You have your own room with direct access to bathroom. There is a separate additional toilet.

The very big living/dining room is also at your disposal - stylish dining table and two comfortable sofas. Large TV with cable, WIFI access available. You're welcome to all of this, including if you want to work at the table. The kitchen is available to you most of the time, too.

I rent only one room, so you are sharing the facilities with myself and occasionally also my boyfriend.

Interaction with guests

I love hosting, but as a frequent traveler, I also understand that there are times when you may just prefer not to interact much. I'm available, but not in your face.

I am happy to provide you with information, insight or suggestions about exploring Amsterdam, or to let you discover this lovely city in your own way. I have maps and guide books if you want them.

I work from home much of the time, but my office is separate from the living area.

Other things to note

Price includes healthy breakfast.

Delicious dinner (vegetarian or fish) available by arrangement.

The building is wheelchair accessible, and the apartment is suitable for persons with mobility limitations.

Mostly, check in and check out times are flexible - except to accommodate another guest. However on some occasions you'll need to pick up the key at a local business, and let yourself in.

Occasionally, I may be traveling, and you'll be staying here alone. In that case, you have access to the whole apartment except my bedroom, and I'll leave a good supply of breakfast items for you.

For the sake of my neighbours, please be quiet on the stairs and on the balcony after 10pm.

Jo is a fantastic host and her apartment is just beautiful, sparking clean and so so comfortable. We had the best time in Amsterdam staying with Jo, she made us feel at home and was very warm and welcoming. She is a lovely person, very interesting, and just a very generous person. Her place is lovely, we were really comfortable and enjoyed the lovely breakfast. Very grateful of having met Jo and stay with her.

My stay at Jo's apartment on the canal was perfect. I travelled solo to the Netherlands and stayed with Jo five days. Her beautiful, clean and spacious apartment is quintessentially modern European, with a full wall of windows overlooking one of the larger canals. I was welcomed and made to feel comfortable from the second Jo opened the door to greet me. The bedroom is spacious with a balcony, comfy bed and very nice shared bath. Jo sets out a delicious breakfast and coffee/tea in the mornings. The apartment is a very short walk to the bus and streetcar stops, and is situated in a nice friendly neighborhood. It was super easy to get around the city, to the museums, and the central train station. Jo is incredibly nice and comfortable to stay with. She offered information and suggestions on sightseeing, restaurants, and public transport. She is a seasoned traveler and really knows how to host other travellers. Jo is very nice, I liked her from the start and really enjoyed our chats. She really knows how to host. I give my experience at Jo's the highest rating!!!

Jo was a wonderful hostess. She was at the apartment when we arrived and provided maps, suggestions for areas to go, and helped us with apartment hunting! She is in a beautiful location in a modern building with an elevator. I would definitely stay here again!

Dear Jo, thank you so much for your wonderful place. As soon as we entered the apartement we felt right at home. The location was perfect for exloring the city and nice and quiet after a long day. The view was wonderful. You left us a lot of useful information and maps, which helped us a lot. You were so easy to communicate with and getting the key and finding the place was very well organized. Once again thanks for everything. We will definately recommend your place and hopefully we will be back soon again.

She was waiting for me and my friend. She can make a check in scheduling very flexibly. Her house is super cozy and accessible from the central station. Her house seems to be renovated several years ago so that house has everything, including elevator. Also, it is good to travel to other places, Van Gogh museum, Heineken Experience, and so on, by tram near there. She was so kind and willing to offer us many things as much as she could. I loved it.

Staying with Jo was an absolutely delightful experience. Her apartment is beautiful and light with a gorgeous view - tall ships go down the canal at night! The location is excellent for walking around Amsterdam. The room and bathroom were big and comfortable. Jo was a helpful, considerate, generous hostess and a very interesting person to talk to. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented, too!
