About this listing
Welcome! This listing is for shared space in our attic. This nook is ideal for folks just looking for a place to sleep. The bed has a privacy partition and ear plugs are provided. The house has two roommates and other Airbnb guests.
Hello! Our house is a couple blocks off broadway in the northern section of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The room is one of five bedrooms in our house. You will be staying with roommates and other airbnb guests. We have a cozy kitchen, bathroom and living room with lots of light! You can do laundry downstairs ($1 wash / $1 dry), and hang out in our lovely living room.
Our house is the tall, dark and handsome type, height / weight proportionate, with a red brick exterior (if you're into that sort of thing). Good to know we are an older home, not a hotel so the aesthetics come with the territory. We're two blocks from Broadway, with a stupid amount of cool shit and buses within walking distance. You can get to the Pike/Pine nightlife in a short 10-minute walk.
Broadway has transformed from its grungy gutter-punk needles-and-heroin 90s roots. Macklemore filmed a music video here last night. Sir Mix-A-Lot wrote "My Posse's on Broadway" about it. Pearl Jam came up with their name at B&O Espresso just down the block (RIP B&O – now moved to Ballard).
We also live right by the library, and we've even been there a few times.
The room can hold one person. This is a shared space of a 3rd floor room. The guest space is sectioned off by a sheet so there is visual privacy. The room has a clothes dresser, place to hang jackets/towels, desk, full sized bed, ear plugs, umbrella, bedding and towels provided, shower caddy, locked 2 drawer file cabinet (to store small valuables) and welcome binder. The binder has very thorough information about the house as well as roommate recommendations of what to do in the are. The 3rd floor also has two private rooms (Leah's and Michael's). Folks staying in the private room use the remaining area of the 3rd floor room (not a part of the guest space) to enter/exit their room. The guest space also has a fan and for the summer months an AC unit. In the house we use/offer fan's, air purifiers and ear plugs to prevent any noise disturbances between guests/roommates.
As we have multiple listings in this house as well as roommates and one bathroom we limit the overall number of guests in the house to 7 at one time. This listing is only able to accommodate one guest.
Be aware that our house is older, and feels very lived-in. The paint and furniture have blemishes, our carpets have stains that won't quit and our tile floor looks like it needs a mopping even after a vigorous cleaning. Our house has structural elements that disrupt wifi signals (such as brick). Our wifi is very strong in this listing area and in our living room. We deep clean the house a couple times a week and do daily light cleaning. While our house shows it age, it will always be cleaned up and ready for guests! We appreciate our house for the location and the people.
Our neighborhood can be challenging to park in and only street parking is available.
You'll be staying with two of us and a few other airbnb guests:
Leah, 31: Leah has lived in the house for 4 years. Leah is a Midwest transplant who grew up in Michigan and spent a few years in Chicago before relocating to Seattle. Living with Leah is like summer camp. Her favorite moments in life are (1) when the power goes out (camping time!), (2) summer barbecues, and (3) when everyone wants to have a dance party. She's really good at people. Leah has several part time jobs that range from working as an ABA therapy assistant (therapy for youth with Autism), staff in a young adult shelter, Residential Advisor for High School International students in a dorm setting and driving with Lyft. Leah likes to keep busy and is often out of the house. You are most likely to see her around if you are at the house during late morning/early afternoon or get a ride from her!
Mike, 35: Mike has lived in the house for 10 years! A cali native and Berkeley Co-op resident 10 years ago, he is now a scientist and businessman in human-computer systems. He enjoys having long intellectual discussions about changing the world and happiness and all that meaningful stuff. When he's not doing that, however, he's fun and playful and borderline stupid, like a puppy. All the musical instruments in the living room are Mike’s. Mike has a sweet motorcycle and motor scooter. Mike travels often for any of the 4 businesses he is running! When he is around he loves to meet and chat with guests!
We open up this space for special occasions, like when a roommate has gone out of town, or we're just in the mood for some fun out-of-town company. So take advantage when it's here!
House check in times are flexible and room Check in/out times have a firm start time (check in) and end time (check out). Room check in is any time AFTER 3pm and check out is any time BEFORE noon. We have a flexible check in process set up so guests can arrive any time that works for them. Because of this we don't have a roommate present when guests check in. The week before check in a very detailed check in instruction message is sent. Guests should print or copy these instructions and have them handy when they arrive. Guests are welcome to text Leah if any questions come up upon arrival.
We do have the capacity to set keys out early and folks store items in our living room before their room is ready and/or store items after check out in the living room till final departure. This must be arranged before hand. This can be arranged during booking or any time at least one day before check in.
Interaction with guests
Airbnb website messages only before the day of arrival. Starting on the day of arrival, mostly via text/airbnb messages. Leah does all the guest communications. She works multiple part time jobs and is available via text/airbnb message to answer questions during your stay.
If you receive messages from a 650 area code this is a text notification of an airbnb message. Make sure to refer to the full message on the website. Leah will only text from her number area code 206.
Good to know we typically do not meet our guests in person upon arrival. We aim to have a very flexible check in process that works for our guests schedule so we have set up a self check in process based on detailed instructions sent the week before arrival. We ask all guests to make sure to have these instructions accessible for reference upon arrival. Leah is available via text/airbnb messaging if any questions come up. We appreciate hearing from guests via text once they are in if all is well or if questions have come up!
Follow the golden rule: Treat others (and our house!) like you want to be treated.
Please keep in mind we are a home, not a hotel. We offer our rooms on airbnb because of our excellent experience with trustworthy, respectful, warm guests. Please continue the legacy by contributing to the atmosphere of our home with respect, warmth, and trustworthiness.
We are a roommate duo (Leah and Mike!) who have lived together for a number of years! We make music, do science, design the internet, social work, and drink cheap beer.
