Have an extraordinary holiday experience, stay at a working museum. The Okains Bay Museum Bach is a classic retro kiwi bach, the former home of the Thacker family. It's a comfortable, spacious and airy house, with plenty of room for the children to play indoors and out. The beach is a two-minute drive or 30 minutes walk away.

Each paying guest receives one complimentary museum pass to enjoy during their stay.

The space
The Okains Museum Bach is wonderfully retro, furnished in '50s to '70s style. There is no dishwasher or wifi in the bach, and Okains Bay does not have cellphone reception. Enjoy turning off your devices, hanging out together and enjoying your own company.

The Okains Bay Museum, is a small museum which started as a private collection and is now overseen by a trust board. It boasts an amazing assortment of items, including one of the largest collections of Māori taonga outside of the national museum. We have a house on site, which has been set up as accommodation for visitors and experts working on the collection, and is available for guests when not in use by the museum.
