We had a great stay with Gerhard and Brigitte. They both welcomed us warmly to their place and were very responsive to questions before and throughout our stay. The flat is lovingly furnished and situated under their house with a separate entrance. The house is close to a huge sand dune and a beautiful cliff top path suitable for tuning and walking in an area which is also great for cycling. Traffic can be pretty bad from Hour Bay into town during rush hour. Overall a wonderful stay with great hosts. Thank you Gerhard and Brigitte!

We stayed here for 3 weeks, and although apparently the place is quite small by South African standards, we found it was more than adequate in room sizes and comfort and the kitchen was well equipped for two people for quite a long stay. The house is well situated for walking to Hout Bay sea front (20 mins) and you can drive to the bay and shops and numerous restaurants in 5 mins. Gerhard and Brigitte were more than helpful at all times and we spent some lovely evenings in their company, but you can be more private if that's your choice. We would most certainly stay here again if we were to revisit this area.

A fantastic little apartment, tucked away in Hout Bay with beautiful views of the mountains. Gerhard and his wife were super friendly and accommodating and shared some great tips with us. The apartment is very private, spotless and has a nice seating area outside for having breakfast etc... I would definitely stay here again! Hout Bay is a perfect location for exploring and is not far at all from the city centre.

I stayed for eight nights with Gerhard and Elizabeth when I first arrived in Cape Town from England. I already had a good idea of what to expect from the information given on the airbnb website and it lived up to expectations. Gerhard provided maps and directions required to drive from the airport a few days before my arrival. He also answered all my other queries promptly through the airbnb website. Gerhard met me on arrival, helped with my bags and showed me to the rooms which adjoin his house. Access is through a separate entrance from the street. Car parking is on the street. We went through the building security together. Hout Bay is a very security conscious place with electric fences, double locks and motion sensors. Strange for someone coming from an area of low crime. The path from the private street entrance to the front door is very uneven with steps and little lighting. This is not for anyone with walking difficulties, though I'm sure Gerhard would allow alternative access through his property if required. Some of the apartment furnishing is a bit quirky to an Englishman's eyes, but everything was clean and tidy with an obvious effort been made to add a welcoming touch. All the basic kitchen utensils and accessories are provided for, a microwave would have been nice. The bed was comfortable but there could have been more clothes storage available, especially if two people staying. The property is well shaded and cool, even in January. It is also in a very quiet location, which I appreciated. There's very little room outside to sit apart from a concrete patio area shaded with a tarpaulin which I never used, though the view is quite spectacular over the back of Table Mountain National Park. The property is on the outskirts of Hout Bay. As I was driving, the trip to the local shops was not a problem. Walking it would have taken me half an hour each way (I'm slow). There was lots of tourist info leaflets available on site, or ask Gerhard (don't miss the Seal Island boat trip). I would definitely return to Gerhard and Elizabeth's property. It offers very good value for money and I felt at home there.

Gerhard and Elizabeth were very friendly, with Gerhard helping us carry in cases. Because we were very familiar with the area we did not need help with travel advice, though there is a lot of tourist information in the apartment. The apartment was very clean and is cosy, though we found it a bit small for our long stay. It was a 25 minute walk to the beach and Hout Bay harbour. It has just about everything you need for self-catering, though a microwave oven would be useful. Gerhard explained he will change the bedding and clean the apartment after 2 weeks but, at our request and cost, arranged for someone to clean after 1 week. The apartment is largely as shown in the pictures though there is no dishwasher. There is also no outside umbrella, apparently it was left up and it was broken by the wind, but luckily we had our own, which was useful for the times we sat outside. There was initially no TV stations, Gerhard explained his satellite TV had been cut off, but a limited selection was soon available. As shown, there was no secure parking and we parked outside where suggested. Unfortunately, the neighbour across the road crashed into our car while reversing, saying it was the second time he has done this, with no apology.

Response from Gerhard:
Hi Rob Thanks very much for your open statement, it was a pleasure to host you and we take any criticism - whether pro or con - serious. - We will state the size of the apartment in the advert, than the interested can judge. - a microwave oven is a good idea - we look into that. - just a note to the cost of cleaning: we haven't charged you any - so no costs :-) - dishwasher was removed, after we recognized it wasn't used by tenants. These appliances don't get better, if not used - in your case with a longer stay I do understand it would be helpful. We have to take it out from the advert. - I explained to you the situation with the umbrella and we have mounted a sunsail instead. You were happy to use your umbrella - problem solved. - same with the TV: dstv had a problem with our connection which was restored. We use a small package, as most of the tenants hardly use it. We will even change to Smart-TV, so people can use their Netflix and Amazon Prime etc. We hope you still enjoyed the stay with us - all the best for 2017. Gerhard and Brigitte
