Booking the property: It was odd that the primary pictures were of the other unit but we decided to book the property anyway. It's advertised as being very close to the beach and comfortable with most standard amenities.
The property itself: Difficult to find if you aren't familiar with the neighborhood. It's on the only north shore road which is very busy. The parking spot is a blind driveway surrounded by fence - it's tough to back into the spot and if you pull in straight it's very difficult and dangerous to back out into the street. There was also an unbelievably rancid garbage can in the parking area that smelled of old/rotten seafood.
The apartment is dated. To be fair, nothing smelled funny or was blatantly dirty, but it was very hot and stuffy since all the windows were closed and the afternoon sun was on the windows. Even with the windows open its very difficult to get a good breeze. The fridge is old and rusty with old condiments from previous guests - odd. Similarly, the bathroom is dark with a host of antiquated leftover first aid treatments, personal hygiene products, and other odds and ends. While the bedrooms are large, the small fans provided do not give much relief to a hot and stuff room. The washer and dryer are in the backyard and show their age. The shared grill is also in the backyard and also shows it misuse that's occurred over time.
Ultimately we did not stay the whole reservation. We came back from dinner on our first night to find 5 large cockroaches on the kitchen wall above the stove. I've seen cockroaches in cities all over Asia and the US, and these were arguably the largest without exaggeration. We stayed the night we saw them and had debated staying the remainder of the reservation. The last straw was seeing tiny cockroaches on the bookshelf by the front living room door the next morning. We called shortly thereafter to let the hosts know we were leaving and found a hotel for our last two nights.
The hosts: Heather and Kai were available via text/phone and manage the property for another owner. They were very accommodative to our requests and compromised when we wanted to check out early due to the cockroaches. They assured us they get the house treated often for the bugs and expressed apologies for the inconveniences. And for the record, such things as cockroaches are often outside the control of the host. As far as what you'd expect from a property manager they did great. I'd surely stay at a property they manage, just not this property.
