A renovated former farmhouse (140 m2) for 1-5 persons in a stunning Italian setting. Surrounded by 1 hectare privately owned land with olive, fruittrees and vineyards. Near Lake of Corbara and Lake of Bolsana. Close to the highway and trainstation Orvieto with direct trains to Rome and Florence.

The space

A bright, spacious and very comfortable house with a large terrace and surrounded by 1 hectare of privately owned land with olive trees, figs, nuts and vineyards. Super panoramic views. The property, hidden in the hills of Umbria, is 10 miles east of Orvieto, about half way between Rome and Florence.
The house has two floors. There is a livingroom, big kitchen, two bedrooms and a huge study-room with a sofabed, that can be used as bedroom as well. There are two bathrooms and two toilets.
MAIN ENTRANCE: Large hall with washing machine and toilet; fully equipped big kitchen where you can eat; living room with terracotta floor, television, fireplace, CD-player, radio and plenty of books/maps in Dutch, English and Italian. From the living-room you have direct access to a large terracotta terrace with beautiful views over the countryside. Comfortable outdoor tables, hammock and chairs are available.
UPSTAIRS: Two bedrooms (one with shower and basin) with a double bed and a large study room with a sofa bed. The main bathroom has a shower, toilet and two basins.

Guest access

Guest will have the whole place for themselves. Minimum stay 4 nights.

Interaction with guests

I will welcome the guests, but do not stay around. Of course I will be always available if the guest contact me for questions or help.

Other things to note

Guests can use home made olive oil and herbs from the garden. Our Italian neighbours can sell wine, eggs or vegetables from their garden. I have plenty travel books to plan excursions, thrillers in Dutch and English, romans, nonfiction books to read in your hammock. I wrote a nonfiction book about Italy (in Dutch) 'Italiaanse geheimen', available as E-book (Fosfor). There is no airconditioning, but the house has thick walls and in the hot summer months it's inside always nice and cool.

Lovely house, lovely host, lovely neighbours, amazing view! Nice, clean and quiet. A good base for touring in the area, chilling on the terrace, watching the sun set, looking at the stars at night. We give Linda and this place our very best recommendations

An Umbrian paradise!! If you are looking for relaxation, this is where it is found! Settle in, live the slow life, watch the swallows and the ever changing light and breezes in the olive trees and vines. Amazing sunsets every evening from the veranda. Orvieto sights and shopping are a short distance away. Mountain parks, visits to Todi, Perugia, Civita di Bagnoregio, Bolseno, Spoleto, Narni were within one to one and a half hours drive. We enjoyed the very kind farm neighbors and their generosity (wine and fresh produce). The hosts were very thoughtful and responsive. A great experience!

Our stay in Fossatello was truly amazing. We were warmly welcomed and even got some food and aperitif. Linda is very responsive. Her recommended visits and activities in the neighborhood were all very nice. The house is really comfortable and well equipped. We adored the peace and beautiful panoramic views from the terrace and garden. We could use figs and nuts from the garden and we watched men harvest the grapes. We were like in a movie :). Due to the shelter on the terrace, we could even enjoy outside life during thunderstorms. Neighbours were wonderful, we got eggs, tomatoes and even pizza! In sum: we thought to be in paradise and did not want to leave . Thanks, Linda!

I can most definitely recommend this beautiful place! My girlfriend Rubie and I (both 27 and just finished studying) were welcomed by the lovely host Linda with a glass of prosecco (after 1 glass she left the bottle for us in the fridge) and explained us everything about the neighborhood and about the trees and vineyards which fill up their beautiful 240 degrees view from their terrace. We arrived from Rome by train which was relaxing, easy and cheap. But this place is also easy to reach from the highway. The surroundings are truly beautiful and typical Italian, just like the nice Italian neighbors who have been living there for generations and mostly eat their self-produced food. Rubie and I are very fond of cycling, which we enjoyed very much in this region. The interior of this house makes you feel at home very easily, full of traveling and cooking books (Linda is a journalist traveling frequently to places like Turkey and Iran) and even a fireplace inside. This is definitely a place where you can see and feel that people actually live here. The kitchen also serves all your needs when you feel like cooking your fresh locally produced food you just bought. Altogether, a great place to escape Rome's hectic life or to spend a few weeks. Would love to come back!

If you like peace and quiet and enjoy nature and beautiful views; this spacious country home is the place for you! Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, fruit trees, flowersnd herbs, your mind is completely at peace while sipping your early morning coffee on theterrace or coming home after a day of sightseeing trips and have your supper outdoors. And when was the last time you hung your laundry on an outdoor clothes line ? The very friendly neighbor will take it in for you when it rains. It was a pleasure to meet Linda who welcomedus like we were long lost friends ( Well, we initially were due to unexpected road closure and us not checking our text message but thanks to a phone call we got to her place OK!) Linda's house is one of a kind; very comfortable and spacious and truly feels like home. There are many items and pieces of furniture plus overflowing bookcases that reflect her many travels as an international journalist. If you don't mind the 15 minute drive from the autostrada exit through the lovely countryside in order to reach her house or be en route to the many tourist attractions such as Sienna, Montepulciano,Assisi,Cortona, Sorano Bolseno Lake etc. etc. I would highly recommend staying at this inviting country house to make your vacation complete! And by the way, if you are not in a hurry,(and why would you be on vacation...) taking the local roads instead of the autostrada is another charming way of getting to know Umbria and Tuscany whereby you will drive through ancient villages that are not on your tourist map but are equally appealing. Thank you Linda for trusting 'strangers' to stay at your home. If it weren't for the ardeous Los Angeles to Rome flight we would be back in a heartbeat!

We loved this house! In a beautiful and quiet setting, it had all the amenities we needed and plenty of room (for a family of 4). The terrace was lovely - nice and cool throughout the day, with wonderful views! You will need a car but it is a great base to explore nearby Orvieto, Perugia and Todi as well as being a 30 min drive from Lake Bolsena. Linda was very welcoming and helpful and provided us with recommendations on good places to eat and towns to visit.

The house in Fossatello was wonderful. There was plenty of room. We had everything we needed. It was handy for travelling to the local villages and further afield. The local restaurant in Corbara was good value. Her neighbours were delightful. It was great to eat outside as the sun was setting. Linda was very helpful. We had a car hire problem and her knowledge of Italian helped us at a stressful time. She waited for us while we went to the supermarket and escorted us all the way to her place. We got lots of good information about the local area.
