Century-old watermill w/ a 30m biological swimming pool and large wooden deck w/ barbecue facing South/Southeast. Property completely immersed in Nature, providing big gardens. Self-catering. 8-min walk from the main beach of Zambujeira do Mar, elected the most beautiful Portuguese village beach.

The space

One of the oldest traditional buildings in the region, recovered in 2011. Four-hundred meters from Zambujeira do Mar beach and village center, where you'll find restaurants, bars, the market, the local baker, ATM and tourism center. Our place will offer you the absolute feeling of the pristine Portuguese country-side, with plenty of open-space and outdoor patios, where you'll be able to spot several singular bird-species while fully-enjoying your morning coffee or evening tea from one of our patios.

In 2016 we have expanded the area with a 30m long crystal clear chlorine-free fresh water pool, with a children play pool, respecting the old lines of the watermill channel and the surrounding nature. The upper patio of the watermill expands into a 200m2 wooden deck with a stone barbecue.

Guest access

The whole property will be exclusive to you.

Interaction with guests

A friend of the host will receive guests in-situ, introduce the place to the guests, and hand over the keys.

Other things to note

The facilities of the village's water station are opposite to our property. You will pass along these facilities on the way to the beach. However, from nowhere within our property, these facilities are visible and the water stream running inside our property is often louder than the soft sound of the water station.

The pool is really that big. I loved the several levels in this home and the garden. It is a fact that the walls are a bit moisty but hey ... what did you expect for a watermill ? Leave the window open for an afternoon and you have forgotten. Location is unusual but for those who are open for something else will love it. It is close to the village, you should go to the restaurant vicentino-10min walk. This is definitely a nice place!

The period we rented the place is when Sudoeste festival is going on (never heard of it before). Sudoeste festival wasn't mentioned. Sudoeste busses (yes actual busses every 20 minutes) crowds of teenagers to the beach of zambujeira, which means a fully overcrowded beach and restaurants/stores throughout the week. All through the night music could be heard, our kids woke up in the middle of the night, as did I another night to the tune of 7 nation army at 5.30 in the morning.. So avoid during this period The place is also next to a water treatment facility which every morning between 9 & 11 would be extremely noisy. So noisy you could not sit outside and talk to each other. Otherwise the place is beautiful, tastefully decorated & clean, and had the downsides been mentioned I would have been okay.

Adriano's place is really nice, and the pool is fantastic - a real treat. It is a bit of an adventure getting there but once you're there it is certainly worth it! Thanks Adriano and well done on converting the old mill into a beautiful little house and space to disconnect in!

Probably the most unique Airbnb I have stayed at. It felt like a luxury resort, with the well equipped house, the huge outdoors deck and swimming pool, all in the middle of a green oasis. I absolutely loved it and hope to return some day.

We stayed in the water mill for 2 weeks and enjoyed the hot Portuguese sun. Children, 8 and 6 years old, enjoyed the great swimming pool, swing and hammocks. For us, the place was perfect. It is in the middle of nature and full of privacy. The place is comfortably furnished and equipped. The downside was that, especially in kitchen furniture, and in the bedrooms’ cabinets, smelled mold. The house is a stone house and the structures do not smell but the furniture. During the day when the doors and windows are open, the smell of mold does not bother, but if the doors and windows are closed, there is stale air. The biopool is interesting. The water is truly clear and I believe it is good quality. We swam a lot. When we came, the pool was full of biomass (green patch on the surface and on the bottom). We cleaned the pool for several days with a net. After three days, it was better. The pool is deep; it was good that kids already knew how to swim. At the other end, an adult gets their feet down, while the other does not. There are many different swimming aids available for kids. It was wonderful to swim in chlorine-free water. However, also frogs and non-toxic water serpents enjoy the pool as well. We took one bigger serpent in the net and carried to near-by water stream, the smaller ones are impossible to catch, but luckily very shy. Only one time we were at the same time in the pool with a small snake. Frogs are noisy late in the evenings. A nice path leads to the beautiful village and the beach. There are a couple of local markets in the village, but if you need a little more or are more demanding in terms of food ingredients, then the nearest bigger grocery store is about a 10 min drive to the neighbor village. The water treatment plant did not bother us much. However, in a few nights I woke up aloud, recalling the low whistling of the whistle. I am a sensitive sleeper.

A very romantic and quiet place close to the little village Zambujeira do Mar at beautigul Algarve. If you like wide sandy beaches this place is the perfect place to go! We drove down there from Lissabon and made several stopps because of the amazing scenery. The watermill is sort of adventurous to reach because it is in the middle of nowhere, even though it's only a few minutes down to the village with a bike. But if you are looking for a place to relax, this place is definately the place to go! Well equipped, clean bathroom and kitchen, wonderful terraces and an extraordinary pool which is all natural. If you prefer a Crystal blue chlorine pool you better go to a hotel. At night you can listen to the frog's concert :-)
