Housed on the bottom two floors of a five-story 18th century former mill and sewing factory, the Machine Room is newly restored, with a brand new kitchen, bathroom and deck overlooking the river. The open plan space includes sleeping area with king size bed, sofabed, workspace, full kitchen with dishwasher, convection hob and oven, dining and entertainment space, and good WiFi connectivity. Miles of local footpaths and cycling routes make the area a favourite for walkers and cyclists.

The space
This space was once where the machinery for the 18th century factory and mill were housed but now it is comfortable, clean and newly restored throughout. The Machine Room has everything a couple or family with a little one requires for time away. Relax on the river deck to the rushing sounds of Elphin Brook, absorb the industrial history of the preserved architecture with exposed beams and cast iron columns or simply put your feet up in the cozy living space and get away from it all.

Where you’ll be

Cragg Vale, England, United Kingdom

Cragg Vale is a beautiful valley just outside the bustling market down of Hebden Bridge, proudly self-proclaimed as the Alternative Lifestyle Capital of Europe. Two local pubs are right in the neighbourhood, the Robin Hood (virtually across the road) and the Hinchliffe, a short ten minute stroll along the river path from Castle Gate Mill. Miles and miles of footpaths traverse the moors above the valley, including the popular Pennine Way and Calderdale Way (which passes by the front door), leading to local landmarks like Stoodley Pike and Gaddings Dam. On the route of the Tour de Yorkshire, Cragg Road is a popular challenge with cyclists for its famed "Longest Continuous Incline in England."

London-based, American lawyer and former professional carpenter. I'm a terrible traveller...I can never decide where to go! I just let work take me wherever it does and the rest of the time hole up in California (where I'm from) or London. Trying to get out of that habit.
