My actual host was Helen, and she did anything to make this stay as smooth as possible for me. Starting with a morning check-in (!) so I could go on my planned day-hike, going on with using her BBQ for dinner (which we shared) to giving me a tour on the hidden gems of Camino Ciel and its history. Thank you so much Helen. Glen, thank you for the good and timely communication.
Glen did not host us. And finding the property was quite difficult because the map airbnb provides clicks out to a different location in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps. This made it pretty difficult while on the go. Helen hosted us and she is a saint. She is a very lively woman who has lots of wisdom and interesting things to share with her guests that made the stay really enjoyable. House was big and clean.
Our stay was simple and perfect for an overnight getaway. We checked in around 5 pm before heading into SB for dinner. Glen made sure we got to the destination. Driving there was easier than directions make it seem. Glen was not home, but various roommates popped up to show us around. The room was cute and clean. The scenery beautiful and the pool a bit chilly. Helen was not home during our stay so Glen and two other people checked in on us (a bit confusing). I ended up asking a random guy what dishes I could use in the kitchen...he had two friends stay overnight as well so there were quite a few people milling about the property. Not for a those who value privacy but fine by me.
The communication was excellent and provided us with excellent directions to the house . It should be noted that Glen is not the host but the host is Helen. Unfortunately she was out of town for our stay. It is an amazing house on an amazing property. If you like being in nature this is the place for you. It was clean and fresh when we arrived. The bed was comfortable and the pool was warm. The only downside is that there was no key to lock your room. Also, there are other guest staying on the property which was not clear to us.
Glen was very good with communicating to my husband and I about this listing through Airbnb. He was prompted and provided us with great directions. However, the actual host was Helen. She was absolutely delightful and stayed in contact with us up until the day after we left her place. She was concerned that with our late arrival in that we might have difficulty finding the place in the dark and drove down to meet us and have us follow her. Helen got us all settled into a very nice room with a private bath. The only down side was the spotty phone/internet connection. We were welcomed in the morning to beautiful scenery streaming into our room which we couldn't full appreciate the night before in our drive through the numerous switchbacks to her home. She was also waiting to greet us when we embarked from our room. However, that wasn't enough. She wanted us to experience all that the areas near hear home in Santa Barbara had to offer by taking showing us around her property and surrounding mountains/canyons as well that morning. After meeting up with a couple in the Painted Caverns touring from Brazil, she took us all to a stagecoach stop for a late breakfast that is popular with the locals. She saw us off on our way and followed up with a call later in the day to make sure we got to our next location, and we definitely intend to stay in touch!
