Other things to note

However, many of the beautiful churches and city palaces were fortunately spared by the lava flow and are still present today in full glory. After the volcanic eruption, Garachico lost its status as a major trading port. Fisheries and agriculture were the main focus of Garachico's life. Even today, the many banana plantations around the village bear witness to this development. In the center of Garachico is the Plaza de Libertad. Around this central square are many sights, such as the parish church of Santa Ana, the Palacio de los Condes de la Gomera and a former Franciscan monastery. Today, the town hall and Casa Cultura are housed there. The square before the 16th century built parish church is decorated as in all the Canarian places with beautiful parks. Among the shading The town of Garachico with its port was founded by the banker of Genoese Christobal de Ponte in 1496, immediately after the conquest of Tenerife. Garachico's first economic foundation was sugar cane and its processing. In 1520 the construction of the Eremita de Santa Ana, the main church, was begun. In a cultivation of the church is today a small museum with sacred objects. In the 16th and 17th century Garachico developed into the most important port on the island. In 1575 the fortress of San Miguel was built. The export of the Malvasia wine was particularly important for the business activity at that time, especially to England. Prosperity from the trade of that epoch permitted generous foundations; In the 18th century there existed five monastic congregations. 1645 was the first year of destiny in a series of catastrophes, when by a huge storm flood about 80 humans were killed and 40 ships were sunk. Trade and prosperity also had a negative effect on the unrest of 1666, when local inhabitants, who were employed against the English merchants, smashed wine barrels, which were ready for shipment at the port of Garachico. In 1697, a conflagration raged in the city, destroying over a hundred houses. The end of Garachico's trade center came however on 5 May 1706 with the eruption of the Montaña del Estrecho (Volcán Garachico) located above the place, in the course of the Lavamassen the Garachicoos harbor for the most part. The 16th-century church and monastery of San Francisco, the oldest buildings in the village, at Plaza Glorieta de San Francisco, were spared by the lava masses. The traders then moved to Puerto de la Orotava, today's Puerto de la Cruz. Many inhabitants became impoverished and migrated to the then Spanish colonies on the other side of the ocean. A new, small but modern port for fishing and private boats has been in operation since 2012. This was protected on the sea by a large mole. Possibly this port will be used in the future for a ferry connection.

We had a fantastic week in Garachico. The apartment is in possibly the best location in town. The flat and town were just right for our needs as a family with a baby. There are loads of restaurants nearby and a small shop in the town. Good walks and swimming areas. The flat was well laid out and had an amazing view. Although the road is just in front of the building, we didn't feel disturbed by the traffic noise. Michael was very friendly and always on hand if we needed anything. We thoroughly recommend the flat.

This is a very clean and comfortable apartment in a central location in Garachico. We used it as a base for a walking break, needing to take a car to the heads of the trails. If you want to swim, eat in cafes, watch the waves and enjoy the ambiance of a delightful small town, then this place is for you. Be aware you might struggle to find a parking spot at peak times. Because of it's central location, there is some noise from traffic and the bars. Michael was a helpful host who came to visit us at the start of our stay.

The rest wasn't bad at all but this was by far our best stay in Tenerife. The apartment is very nice, really big enough for four (we were just the two of us) with high-quality furniture and a big balcony. It's located really directly at the seaside with a nice view to parts of the local surf. Michael responded almost immediately to our requests and came by to give us some extra hints for the local surroundings. Check-In or finding the apartment was no big deal, Michael offers a very good description after booking. Cleaniness was top-notch without anything to complain about. As Garachico is a very small town, everything is within a few minutes of walking with lots of restaurants and bars. We travelled by bus, but would recommend a car, nevertheless Michaels apartment is a very lovely place to explore the southwest of Tenerife. Please enjoy as we did!

We enjoyed our stay in Garachico. The apartement of Michael is good located and well equiped. You can hear the calming sounds of the waves on the nice balcony while watching the local life in the beautiful village. Good to take a walk at the evening or have a tasty meal at one of the local restaurants. Thanks Michael for hosting us :)
