The space

Location:
We are located two and a half miles west of Rockton IL, just south of the Wisconsin border. The homestead sits on eight wooded acres has a shallow creek, a one acre pond and a peninsula for camp fires. Rural country roads are ideal for biking and the pond offers canoeing or kayaking opportunities. Just down the road is a 700 acre wetland sanctuary which attracts numerous migrating waterfowl, offers hiking trails and grand bird watching. Nearby is the Colored Sands Bird Banding station where visitors are welcome to participate in the process. Sugar River Forest Preserve is also close by and has miles of marvelous trails and the pristine Sugar River for day or overnight paddle excursions. A few miles north of us is the College town of Beloit WI which offers cultural activities, shopping, farmers market, and fine dining as well as the Rock River and adjacent parks. Angelic Organics a working organic farm and education center located just east of Rockton and offers hands on activities and volunteer opportunities. Of course our humble little town of Rockton has quaint dinning, antique shops, churches, library, swimming pool and grocery available for your use. There are lots of fun and entertaining things to do nearby and of course you can always welcome to just hang out at our home and enjoy a relaxing day.

Guest Room:
The guest room has its own entrance and many windows with a view over- looking our pond. It has a comfortable full bed, coffee maker, fresh water, music, mini fridge, and self-regulated heat and air conditioning unit. It has a private entrance to a shared full bathroom, the use of shared kitchen, meals and laundry are available upon request. Controlled, attended pets are welcome. Safe off street parking.

We are available to interact as you wish or if you need us to respect your privacy just let us know ahead.

We love our neighborhood's location being a straight shoot off hwy 90, west on Rockton rd. And this makes us easy to find without a lot of turns if driving at night. Bird Haven is the first house on the left as you enter Eunice Ln. You might like to walk across the street to see cows and horses, or stroll beneath the shade of soaring Oak trees that line our streets, surrounded by farm land.

You will need your car to see the sites. We are available for questions if you get lost .
So keep our number handy.

We would like you to park in the second driveway as it is shadier and closest to entrance of our guest room. It is paved with gravel so it may be a little muddy if it is rainy! We will be there to greet you and lead you along the short wood chip path around to the French doors facing the pond. If snow is an issue we have an optional entrance through the garage ... but it's not as charming and may be cluttered.

We came to town for a wedding and stayed one night. Ken & Mari were extremely hospitable and kind! Their place is beautiful and so natural. The whole area was quiet and peaceful. The room was quaint and comfortable. Very clean and accommodating as well. There is a small living area with a coffee maker, a water dispenser, etc. and a nice shared bathroom. The pictures do not do the place justice! It is bigger than the photos show. Our stay was quick but very enjoyable because of Ken & Mari's warm welcome and great accommodations. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My wife and I were so overwhelmed by the graciousness of Ken & Mari. They went way out of their way to make us feel welcome. The accommodations were excellent as well as all the wildlife we were able to see right from their backyard! Not to mention a host of nearby activities to do and places to see. We actually saw 43 pelicans at a nearby marsh overlook!! They truly have a one of a kind spot that we have no problem recommending!

Great hosts, friendly. There isn't a TV and that really shouldn't matter, enjoy the environment right outside the door, so beautiful and full of life to observe and appreciate.

This place is simply magical. From beautiful room, the wildlife, the pond out back, to Kenneth and Mari (& Dora) themselves, staying at “Bird Haven” was such a wonderful experience. It was an especially nice treat to be able to use the canoe to paddle around the pond in the back yard (which was followed by some homemade lemonade)! So relaxing! I’d suggest staying with Kenneth and Mari for a weekend away, even if you had no other reason to be in Rockton, IL.

Ken and Mari greeted us and showed us around. They have a beautiful home with a lot of carictor. The room was clean and we'll equipped with the exception of a television. Our only issue was with the bed. We are used to a queen size bed, but this one was much narrower and shorter.

Response from Kenneth & Mari:
We offer a lot to do outside, our listing does not advertise a TV. There is internet access and music available. Many couples have found the bed to be large enough and very comfortable. The exact size is listed on our site.

Two unique people who both love the outdoors and and wildlife. One is business and accounting oriented while the other is artistic and an environmentalist. We enjoy a low tech easy going life style and would have thrived in a Seeger Gracia presidency.
