Our driveway / access road is gravel and steep in spots and requires AWD or 4WD vehicles to travel up and down the road. If you decide to park at the top of our driveway it is a 5 minute walk down to the cottage an(URL HIDDEN)minute walk back up.
FREE On-property Parking is provided for ALL WHEEL DRIVE OR 4WD vehicles. Free parking is available for 2 wheel drive vehicles at the top of our driveway.
CLEATOR ROAD SHUTTLE
Are nervous about driving up and down our driveway? Do you have physical conditions that would exclude you from walking up and down the driveway? Inquire about our Cleator Road Shuttle. This is a $40 service to assist you with your arrival and departure. Please schedule at least 5 days in advance. The availability to schedule our shuttle driver is not guaranteed.
The main floor, Lazy Bowen Hideaway, is self-contained and privately situated from the ground floor, Lazy B Waterfront Suite. Access between the 2 rentals is through the exterior stair case on the west side of the house.

You can Stay Connected with the Wireless Computer connection. Relax in the Colorful living room to watch the 40” Flat Screen TV with Cable connection or make it movie night with the VCR or DVD player.
The creative talent of Jan Stevens is also expressed in her framed Bowen Island photographs displayed throughout the cottage: bringing Bowen’s beauty indoors. These large nature scenes are available for purchase.
The Lazy Bowen Hideaway and The Lazy B Waterfront Suite are remotely poised on a cliff just above the Beach. Access to the Beach and the neighborhood Boat Dock is 1 minute down the trail, ideal for Swimming, Boating, Fishing or Kayaking. The Dock is available May – September.
Bowen Island is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy a round of Golf at the 9 hole Bowen Golf course. Rent a Kayak for lessons or a trip around Bowen. Hiking trails abound or Bike the hills of the island for a great workout.
Bowen Island is situated near many other destinations. A trip from Rural Bowen Island to downtown Vancouver is only a 20 minute ferry ride and a 20 minute drive. Or catch the Water Taxi for a 30 minute boat trip to Granville Island. Snow skiing is a 90 minute drive up the new Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler or 30 minutes to Cypress Ski Resort.
Vancouver International Airport is a 60 minute drive plus the 20 minute ferry ride from Bowen Island.
So many activity choices but remember….Relax and Be Lazy at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway and the Lazy B Waterfront Suite.

If you are renting the entire property I am most likely not on the island . But I am only a phone call or an email away. If needed, we have staff that can assist you with any needs that might arise.

FREE PARKING on the property requires driving a short distance on Cleator Road, our access road:
it is steep in spots,

2 Wheel drive VEHICLES ~ you may choose to park your 2 wheel drive vehicle at the top of the road and take the 5 minute walk down to the cottage. PARKING IS FREE

We are grateful that you have chosen our home for your getaway. Digitally agreeing to the below terms allows us to confirm or deny your booking. Once we confirm or deny your booking you will receive a confirmation with a receipt of payment.
The main party named on the payment terms is responsible for informing the entire group of the house rules. Please take the time to inform the other guests of the rental guidelines / house rules.
Occupancy, whether day or night, is limited to the named and approved guests as per your reservation request including infants, children and visitors.
Violation of this policy will result in immediate eviction without compensation and complete retention of your security deposit. Only guests listed by you at time of booking may stay at or visit the property.
Please be aware that we have exterior security cameras at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway and Lazy B Waterfront Suite to protect the property.
Maximum occupancy at any time is 8 guests.
Adults, children and babies are all part of the guest count. With the exception of infants that are not yet walking, we do charge for all guests, including children. Unlike hotel rooms, we have many nooks and crannies, glass, and objects that require deep cleaning like a real home. Our house keepers do an excellent job of cleaning after each turnover and this takes additional time with additional guests. In addition, all guests use bedding, water, towels, and other amenities.
Check-in is as early as 3:00 pm (please no early check-in)
Check-out is as late as 11:00 am (please no late check-out)
The security deposit will be charged if the rental agreement is violated or damages are found.
AIRBNB GUESTS ~ Security deposits are processed through the Airbnb web site only if damage is found or a violation of the rental agreement is found.
(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) payments will include your security deposit and charged 30 days prior to your arrival. It will be refunded within 7 days of your departure.

WHAT IF THERE IS A POWER OUTAGE
Storms can be exciting but high winds can leave us without power. We supply tea light candles, matches, and battery operated lanterns. You can find these items in the Hideaway hallway closet and the Lazy B Waterfront Suite bookcase. We do not have a generator.
TRAVEL INSURANCE We highly recommend you purchase travel insurance. If you wish to purchase travel insurance, go to Travel Guard, (URL HIDDEN)

AWD OR 4WD VEHICLE IS REQUIRED TO DRIVE DOWN CLEATOR ROAD TO THE COTTAGE
Navigation down to the cottage requires a 4-wheel or All-wheel drive vehicle. A medium size 4-wheel drive vehicle such as a Ford Explorer or smaller is recommended. If your vehicle is a full size truck or larger I would suggest parking at the top of the road unless you are experienced at making tight turns in your vehicle. I recommend walking down the road first before attempting the drive.
CLEATOR ROAD / OUR DRIVEWAY IS:
~ a loose gravel road
~ with 3 tight turns
~ steep in spots
~ will be damaged by anything other than a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle.
~ confidence is required
A minimum fine of $500 plus the cost of road repairs will be assessed to those that ignore this requirement.

I UNDERSTAND THAT DRIVING A 2WD VEHICLE DOWN CLEATOR ROAD IS A MINIMUM $500 FINE PLUS ROAD REPAIRS.
2WD vehicles must park at the top of Cleator Road along Eagle Cliff Road and take the 5-minute walk down to the cottage. If arriving after dark we recommend you bring a flashlight to light your way as you walk down Cleator Road.
The Property is medium-high bank waterfront property. The cliff / water side of the property is not fenced. Parental supervision is required if Children choose to play on the cliff / water side of the Property. If the Guest chooses to allow their children to play on the cliff / water side of the Property the Guest(s) do so at their own risk and accept all responsibility for any injuries that might occur.
As a condition of the rental, the Guest agrees that the rental and use of the Property is entirely at the Guest's own risk including, as applicable, the use of stair access to the yard and decks, and the Guest agrees to hold harmless Jan Stevens from and against any and all claims, actions or damages arising from the use of the Property on account of Personal injury or property damage sustained by the Guest and its invitees as a result of any cause arising out of this Agreement.
The entry access code (Hideaway) and lock box location (Lazy B Waterfront Suite) will be defined in your Welcome Guide. Before leaving Please place the Suite key on the kitchen island. Upon leaving turn the lock and pull the door closed behind you. Hideaway: Turn the thumb knob horizontal and the door will lock behind you.
If the keys are not returned at the end of the rental period, then if deemed necessary for the safety of future Guests, locks will be changed and the fee shall be assessed in the amount of $150.00 to cover the costs of changing locks and new keys. This fee will be charged against the Authorized Security Deposit.
NO SHOES INDOORS PLEASE
When entering the cottage please remove your shoes. It helps to protect the floors and reduces the noise transferred between the suites. We recommend packing indoor shoes such as Flip Flops, Crocks, or slippers, they are perfect for the wood floors. X______
EXTREME FIRE HAZARD WARNING
No outdoor fires of any kind: no beach fires, no bonfires, no burning on or off of our property.
May through September 30: No fires in the fireplace. The leaves and needle debris on the roof are too dry to safely light a fire in the fireplace during this time.
October - April: Fires in the fireplace are allowed assuming there has been a good rainfall. We supply a limited amount of firewood (4 logs) for your evening fires, while supplies last.
IMPORTANT NOTE: do not gather and use wet wood or driftwood in the fireplace or wood stove. This creates an unsafe chimney and risks a flue fire. You are welcome to bring along dried seasoned wood.
NON SMOKING PROPERTY
The Lazy Bowen Hideaway / Lazy B Waterfront Suite is a non-smoking property. When smoking outdoors off of the property use extreme caution. Always use a fire proof container to dispose of ashes and cigarettes. NEVER FLICK ASHES OR CIGARETTE BUTTS INTO THE BUSHES OR ONTO THE TRAIL.
Water Conservation & Septic System Guidelines
This remote old cottage uses a septic system for grey water and sewage disposal that is just above the beach. It is essential to keep the water flow into the septic tank to a minimum. The guidelines are as follows:
~ Please dispose of coffee grounds in the trashcan --do not dump coffee grounds down the sink.
~ Do not pour fats and oils down the drain. They can build up and clog the septic tank pipes.
~ Do use non-chlorine, biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning products.
~ Put paper towels, tissue, cigarette butts, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons and other material in the trash can, not the toilet.
~ Do not overload the septic system. Early morning and bedtime are peak water use times in the bathroom. Stagger your use times.
~ Short showers and shallow baths are appreciated.
~ When using the restroom share the flush. If it is Yellow let it mellow. If it is brown flush it down.
~ Do not use bleach or other anti-bacterial cleansers. If you must use bleach please toss the bleach water out onto the trail.
PLEASE CONSERVE WATER for the Islands sake
~ When washing dishes please be aware of water conservation and minimizing water flow to the septic. Please keep the water stream to a trickle.
~ The dishtowels are in the lowest drawer just to the left of the sink.
We supply Toilet Tissue and Paper Towels Hideaway-Additional paper towels and toilet tissue can be found in the vacuum closet. Lazy B Waterfront Suite: additional toilet paper can be found in the bathroom cabinet. Paper towels are under the kitchen sink.
ORGANIC WASTE, RECYCLING, AND TRASH IS MANDATORY
We realize that the trash regulations are detailed. If you feel you cannot comply feel free to bag all of your trash and remove it from Bowen in your own vehicle.
The separation of organic waste, non organic trash and recyclables is required by the Bowen Island Municipality. Guests are required to follow the guidelines below:
ORGANIC WASTE: We provide an organics pail to separate your organic trash (see photo to the right). It can be found under the kitchen sink. When the compost pail is full please empty it into the Black trash can with the ORGANICS Permit in the Lazy Bowen Hideaway parking area.
What is ALLOWED? Any food or soiled paper that does not contain plastic.

Please rinse, clean, and crush all recyclables. Please sort recyclables into the white bins on the outside of the house. Items such as newspaper, clean paper, plastic bottles, bags, metal, beer and pop cans, glass, batteries, and egg cartons are accepted.
ALL OTHER TRASH
(Non-organic or non-recyclable) Collect the rest of your trash in the provided stainless steel kitchen trash can. Additional kitchen trash liners can be found in the entry cabinet on the right side. When full, tie off your trash bag and place in the NAVY blue trash can with the NON-Organics permit located in our Hideaway parking area.
I understand that the ORGANIC WASTE, RECYCLING, AND TRASH rules stated above must be followed and if not followed will pay a minimum of $50 for housekeeping to separate and re-sort.

We request that all guests sleep in the beds provided. The living room sofas are not to be used for additional sleeping spaces. Nor do we want the decorative pillows used as bed pillows. If you chose not to sleep 2 to a bed please plan on bringing your own floor mattress and bedding.
Please use the beach towels stored in the Hideaway front bedroom closet and the Lazy B Waterfront Suite closet for sunning and beach use. Please do not use the bathroom towels as beach towels.
We supply towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and hair dryers.
The kitchens are supplied with the basics such as salt, pepper, various other spices, cooking oil, tea, a bit of flour, mustard, ketchup, mayo and sugar. You will need to stock the fridge and cupboards for your complete meals. Help yourself to whatever is stored in the refrigerator. Please check the pull dates.
Please refer to the AEG manual kept in the drawer to the left.
Hideaway Convection Oven If you are not familiar with cooking using convection here are some tips:
1) Reduce the temperature 25 degrees and cook the same length of time as a normal oven setting. OR
2) Use your normal oven setting and reduce your cooking time by 25% - check for doneness.
With the price of power we are hoping to reduce our power bill with our new convection oven.
Kitchen pots, pans, and dishware
Before you leave please make sure all Petite Suite dishes, glasses, flatware, pots & pans are returned to the Petite Suite cupboards as well as the reverse. X_____
We want you to make yourself comfortable. If you rearrange the furniture and lamps to your liking please do so with care. Lift them up off of the wood floors so not to damage the floors. We ask that you please return the furniture and lighting back to its original location before you leave the property.
Summer Time Dock
The Eaglecliff neighborhood dock is available to our above Named Guests approximately the middle of May through the end of September. Dates will vary.
~ The dock is for our Guests use for swimming, sun bathing, and fishing.
~ Please share the dock and be respectful of others as this is an Eagle Cliff Community dock.
~ Please No loud noise or music.
~ Dogs are to be leashed and controlled at all times on the dock.
~ Sorry, the kayaks and row boats do not belong to the Lazy Bowen Hideaway and are not for guests use.
~ Arriving by boat? The dock is for loading and unloading only.
~ There is a 30 minute tie up limit.
~ Extended moorage must be anchored off of the dock with your own anchor.
~ Overnight boat moorage is available in Snug Cove.
No animal, bird or other pet shall be kept on the Property, even temporarily, without the written consent of Jan Stevens.
~ BARKING / GROWLING DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Guests will be asked to leave if their barking / growling dog is not controlled. No refund will be given for unused days and time.
~ Pets must be at least 1 year or older.
~ Guests must clean up after their pets whether on the property, beach, or along Cleator Road. Please dispose waste in a tightly sealed plastic bag and place in the outdoor trash can.
~ Dogs are to be leashed at all times when on the summer time boat dock.
~ Dogs are NOT allowed on furniture or bedding at any time. Any evidence of pets on furniture will incur extra cleaning fees.
~ Pet owner agrees to provide their own dog towels for wiping down a wet or dirty dog.
~ Pet owner agrees to provide a pet bed or pet blanket.
~ All pets are to be treated with a topical flea and tick repellent three days prior to arrival.
~ Pets must not cause damage to premises or furnishings. If damages are caused, the cost of the damage may be charged to the guest.
~ Pet will not be left unattended for an undue length of time, either indoors or out. Pet will not be left unattended on balcony, patio, or porch.
~ Homeowner assumes no responsibility for illness or injury that may occur to pets or humans while on the premises.
The Guest shall be solely responsible for the pet while on the property.
There is not a phone installed in the Lazy Bowen Hideaway. Guests are responsible for their own phone service. Cell phone service connections at the house are very good. If you are traveling from the states we recommend changing your plan to include international service. Typically, it can be changed back to your previous plan once you return.
All TVs need to be on channel 3. Each remote is programmed for a specific room. Look for the location sticker on the bottom of the Shaw remote. Use the Shaw remotes to change channels and volume levels. Additional TV and peripheral notes can be found in the Welcome Guide.

You can find puzzles, games, and movie videos in the blue cabinet in the Hideaway front bedroom for your enjoyment. The Petite Suite book case offers videos, DVDs as well.
COMPUTER CABLE CONNECTION
There is a wireless internet connection available to you while staying at the Lazy Bowen. If you would like to connect via a cable, the connection is in the front bedroom to the right of the bed.
The Weber Propane BBQ is located on the large side dining deck. Guests are asked to clean the BBQ with the Wire brush provided. Scrubbing the BBQ while it is hot is the most efficient time to clean. Please be conscientious of conserving the propane and remember to turn Off the propane when done. Because of the very dry conditions and remote location extreme caution needs to be taken when using the BBQ. Please be alert and attentive to the BBQ at all times. DO NOT LEAVE THE BBQ UNATTENDED X______ In addition there is a Weber briquette BBQ located on the lazy b waterfront suite deck. The briquettes are located in the aluminum trash can by the Petite Suite entry door.
Excessive noise, parties, illegal drugs, illegal firearms, etc. are grounds for immediate termination of this contract by both parties and the guests agree to vacate the premises within a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 2 hours of notification of the violation by either owner/authorized agent or police(URL HIDDEN)X_________________
CHECK OUT PROCEDURES: WE ASK THAT YOU LEAVE THE COTTAGE AS CLEAN AND TIDY AS YOU FOUND IT UPON ARRIVAL.
~ As if you are at your own home, prepare for the housekeepers by tidying up before your departure.
~ We are proud of our team of outstanding Bowen housekeepersshowing them gratitude for their good work is appreciated.
~ Wash all dishes, flatware, pots and pans and put away
~ Please make sure that Hideaway and Petite Suite dish items, flatware and pots and pans are in their proper rental unit.
~ Remove all your leftover food items from the refrigerator.
~ Remove the garbage, recycling, and the organics to the proper trash can in the Hideaway parking area/ trash center. *We realize that the trash regulations are detailed. If you feel you cannot comply feel free to bag all of your trash and remove it from Bowen in your own vehicle.
~ If you have rearranged the furnishings please place them back in their original locations.
~ Leave your slept in beds unmade so we know what linens need to be washed.
~ Before you leave please turn the thermostats down to 10 or in the warmer months turn to off and turn off all the lights. We are doing our part to conserve power.
~ Guest Book Before you leave please sign the guest book.
~ Remember to turn the thumbknob horizontal to lock the Hideaway door.
~ Lazy B Waterfront Suite: please leave the keys on the kitchen counter.
~ Have a safe trip home and come back and stay with us again.

Hi there, I am a dual citizen, Canadian and US, living the majority of my time in sunny Henderson, Nevada. For over 39 years I have been designing interiors for hundreds of clients in the southern Nevada, California and as far east as Massachusetts. We love spending about 3 months out of the year on Bowen Island whether upgrading, maintaining, deep cleaning, or relaxing we feel as though we have the best of both worlds.
I love offering our home to Bowen guests and providing the best of comforts and amenities. We value all feedback from our guests and use critiques to perfect our property.
