This 180 year old, heritage listed, Victorian house is a piece of historical Sydney. Just 10 minutes walk from the city, in the heart of trendy Redfern. A perfect place to chill and explore. A garden you'll never want to leave, great conversation & delicious food!!! In fact if I'm cooking, you can take this as an invitation to eat ~:-)

The space

The room is spacious and has a high ceiling. It comes with a double bed, writing table and coat hanger. There’s also a locking door to your room (should you want to) and virtually private access being that it’s the first room on the left after you enter.

Please Note: This is a shared house. There are 3 rooms and the kitchen and bathroom are shared. If you expect the kitchen and bathroom to be cleaned daily this is not the house for you. The house is cleaned once a week and the kitchen and bathroom are tidied throughout the week BUT they will not be spotless. If you need it spotless I suggest you book a private place just for yourself.

Guest access

You have access to the shared lounge room, wireless internet (ADSL+), large kitchen, laundry and a great bathroom (best shower ever!) and of course the backyard.

There are 2 other rooms in the house that are also on AirBnb so you'll also get a chance to interact with fellow travellers. Many people from all over the world have become friends in this house. It's a place to really meet and learn about other people and cultures.

The backyard is beautiful. In fact this next paragraph is dedicated to what’s growing in our garden as of right now: rosemary, parsley, coriander, ginger, bush beans, bertolli beans, climbing beans, comfrey, apple, avocado, fig, grapevine, pomegranate, kumquat, several types of mint, broccoli, amaranth, chia, kale, basil, frangipani, nasturtium, cumin, gardenia, lemon and lime, wolf berry, and a gum nut tree, which when it’s in full bloom will give you a front row seat to hundreds of rainbow lorikeets. And growing out on the front porch is a jasmine bush, coffee tree and a ‘Fruit of the Andes’ Vine.

Interaction with guests

You’d be living with a writer/philosopher by the name of Sam *(that's me :-)

I was born in Sydney and have spent my whole life here so feel free to ask for any information on the beautiful sights and stuff to do.

I love cooking and have my own style that involves a fusion of everything I know plus a fair amount of freestyle experimentation. And I love to talk. In fact I'm happy to have a conversation on pretty much any topic.

I’m also an avid permaculturist. So if you have any questions on gardening or sustainable design I can help there too.

Finally, this is my home. I live here. And you are more than welcome. But please read through my listing and understand who I am and what my home is like. If it doesn't fit in with your desire then I totally understand and you should by all means book a different sort of place. However, I love my home and I have no doubt, if you are of a similar disposition, you will love it too.

Sam is very friendly and nice. He is cute and guide us how to go and explore Sydney. The location is great, it takes 5 minutes walk to Redfern station where one or two stations will reach city central. You can also walk to the city within 15 minutes. However the room that we stay is at the ground floor near to the street. So a bit of noise if someone passing by the house. If the cleanliness can be improved then it will be nice.

Sam's house became a true home for us. We stayed with him for four months and where so glad to have found this place. Sam is a great host, always friendly, welcoming and with lots of good stories to tell. He became actually much more than a host to us, a flatmate and friend. The house is homely and comfy and the kitchen well equipped, we were cooking there nearly every evening. The little backyard-garden outside the house is cute and beautiful to spend some time in the sun. The location is wonderful - in walking distance to Central and Uni, train station close by and in the cool neighbourhood Redfern. Overall, we could not have wished for a better place to stay at. Thanks for all, Sam, and hope to see you soon!

The decision to stay with Sam was truly one of the best decisions for me in a long time. For me, it was the first time I was traveling alone and staying at the hippy heaven, was truly like heaven. Sam is an amazing person, truly a pioneer of his kind. He's always up for a chat and shows much interest about his people around him. His cooking skills are also truly amazing. Why I know that ? Because Sam also loves to cook. Especially with his home grown spices from the back yard, we also had a dinner party where Sam made Kangaroo Bolognese, which was so yummy. The house is amazing too. The vintage Style makes such an chilled out atmosphere and the back yard is truly a wellness spa. Australia has been too far so much fun for me . And staying for the first 10 days has been such a great trip! So I have to say thank you so much for being such an amazing host, I really appreciate that! So for everybody out there who is looking for a chilled house with privacy and fun at the same time this would Definitely be the place to be in Sydney !! Thanks Sam and see you soon mate , love Jack :)

I’d like to say I’m a chilled out sort of dude, and sometimes I am, but mostly I’m excited and passionate about some thought or occurrence that’s taking place in the world around me. I’m obsessed with Capoeira (a Brazilian dance martial art… like breakdance fighting :-), and Perm…
