A very charming cottage, lovely location and fantastic customer service, I would recommend a stay at Castle Acre.

Our first impression of the cottage was very good. We soon found out that one storage heater in the kitchen was not working and we contacted the owner who promptly replied that an electrician would be coming in the evening but he did not come and did not come either the following morning. The owner was told by email but there was no reply and as the weather was keeping warm, we did not pursue the matter, but are disappointed that we did not get any further follow up or explanation. We then found out that the eggs left in the the fridge were rotten! (yes, not bad but rotten!!).... In the ¨Comments Book¨ I read comments written by previous guests which were mostly good or v.good but saw to my dismay that some disparaging remarks had been added to some guests´ legitimate comments about the place. I presume they were written by the owner, but in any case, even if written as jokes, they did not have any place in that book. It is a shame to have to write the above as the cottage itself is very pleasant, tastefully furnished, in a nice environment. Considering the above we do not think Palmers Cottage, from our own unfortunate experience, deserve the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence.

Response from Jake:
Hi Nicole, I am extremely sorry to hear that your stay at our cottage did not meet our usual high standards. I sincerely hope the problems you have written about did not spoil your holiday. However, I feel I should respond to your points. The electrician attended the same day to fix the heater, but was unable to gain access as the key had not been returned to its place in the key box. He returned the following evening as promised, but again could not get in. The weather, as you say, was warm and the other heater in the kitchen was working properly, so the lack of one of the two heaters should have caused no real problem. I can only assume the eggs had been left by a previous guest. The housekeeper does normally check sell by dates of items left for the next guests but must have missed the eggs on this occasion and I apologise for this. I can also confirm I have never written anything in the guest book - it is for guests to write in as they please. Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate opportunities to improve what we offer. Kind regards, Jake.

This is a wonderful comfortable cottage, full of character and charm. We loved the comfortable bed and the cosy log burner. There was a starter pack of tasty food and milk waiting for us which was appreciated after our journey. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the views from the windows were delightful. We really loved our time there and would hope to visit again.

The cottage was a wonderful place to stay while we were exploring Castle Acre & the surrounding villages. Jake's attention to detail was fabulous with everything we could have wanted catered for. The best place in the house was the living room in front of the cosy log fire! Would definitely stay here again if we are ever in Norfolk.

A smashing country cottage with all the amenities you need for your stay with a courtyard that overlooks a fabulous adjoining garden. The village has a lovely pub and restaurant a short walk away. Highly recommended.

Hi, I'm Jake, I love cycling across the far corners of Europe and staying with AirBnb hosts in out of the way places.
