A scenic getaway in rural Vermont, the possibilities are endless and we're here to help. Located in horse country just 6 miles from GMHA, 12 miles from Woodstock, and 14 miles from Okemo, the farmhouse provides a tranquil setting to spend time with family and friends off the beaten path.

The space

If you are looking for a true Vermont experience in a quaint and charming farmhouse, Horse and Hound may be just right for you. People say they like it here because of the surroundings, the cozy and spacious feel of our home, comfortable beds and linens, and our proximity to GMHA. Nearby ski resorts include Suicide Six, Okemo, and Killington, as well as a Nordic ski center at the Woodstock Inn and Resort. Whether you wish to lounge under the apple tree with a book, grill on the back deck, take a dip in a nearby swimming hole, or hit the slopes for your vacation week, our hope is that you get to have fun, rest, and play, while feeling right at home.

This rental which we call the "Main House" of Horse and Hound Farmhouse is the larger portion of an 1800's farmhouse in rural Vermont. The "Main House" rental consists of 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living room areas, and a spacious kitchen. This rental is attached to another separate part of the farmhouse called "The West End". "The West End" has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a separate back entrance for West End guests. The owner lives in the upstairs portion of the West End and rents nightly rooms in the downstairs portion of the West End. If you would like to rent a West End Room in addition to the Main House rental, please inquire directly.

The 9 acre property and small pond are shared between Main House guests, West End guests, and the owner. On property, there are 3 horses, 3 goats, 2 dogs, and 2 barn cats. Our two golden retrievers roam the property freely so this rental is ideal for families or groups who love animals and dogs. We consider allowing two guest dogs in the Main House by permission only. We enforce the usual breed restrictions and ask that you keep them in the central living room during the day. We charge $25 per night for each guest dog. So for 2 guest dogs, that is $50 per night additional.

We have memory foam cots, a high chair, and portable cribs available (Graco Pack and Play). Please reserve in advance, as we provide these for West End guests and Main House guests depending on need.

We stayed with Tayloe over Labor Day weekend and had an absolutely wonderful time! Tayloe was welcoming, accommodating, and her place is true to its AirBnb description: a beautiful house located in a picturesque part of Vermont; majestic horses, Pygmy goats and two playful dogs for the win! We were two families with a couple of kids, and needed both space and entertainment for the troops. The house itself was spacious, beautifully restored and had all the comforts of home. The backyard was something to behold: a barn for horses and goats, an equestrian area and a small swimming pond with lounge chairs. We are recommending Horse and Hound Farmhouse to all our friends. Thanks Tayloe and here's to many return trips!

We spent a picturesque white Christmas at The Horse and Hound farmhouse in Reading, VT, close to nearby Woodstock, Killington, and Okemo. The owner, Tayloe, was an awesome, helpful host to our party of 8 adults, 4 kids, and 1 dog. A hill for sledding and her dogs, goats & horses running free on the property make the experience really unique. The house is a beautifully restored old building with a great hang out space and kitchen with plenty of space to spread out. We were also able to rent another room on the property (Ruffian Room on Airbnb) to accommodate more family! We would definitely love to stay again! Thank you Tayloe!

Tayloe and the Horse & Hound Farmhouse were amazing. We had a group of 9 people and 2 dogs staying at the house while we were competing in the Kedron Fall Foliage Competitive Trail Ride. The house was more than we could ask for: - beds for everyone - so much space for us to spread out - a fantastic and well furnished kitchen for us to cook all of our meals - super hot showers with BATHROBES! - fantastic doggie-couch covers for the dogs and a water dish! The location was prime, just an easy 5 miles to the Green Mountain Horse Association where our horses were staying. It was easy to find and easy to get to even in the dark. We definitely plan to make this an annual visit. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful experience.

We had a wonderful week with friends at the Horse and Hound Farmhouse (4 adults, 3 kids ages 7 to 12, and our labradoodle). House is well set up for multiple guests: every bedroom has its own newly renovated bathroom (the kids especially loved the plush bathrobes provided and adults appreciated the comfy mattresses and bedding), and there are multiple hang out spaces that are tastefully decorated. It is a lot more space than even the pictures convey! Kitchen is well stocked with pots/pans and sharp knives and we cooked quite a few elaborate meals. It was -17 one day we were here, but the wood stove keep us super toasty. Terrific northern views out the windows and Tayloe told us about some great walking trials in the woods where we took long walks with our dog. It is really beautiful up here! If we didn't want to get in the car, tight out the back door there was a lot to entertain the kids: a good sledding hill, a pond we shoveled off to skate on, horses to visit, and Tayloe's energetic dogs to throw a ball for. Our friends skied at Killington and we hung out in Woodstock at the Mont Vert Coffeeshop and Yankee Bookstore. Tayloe is a terrific host! She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable, but also gave us our privacy (we also felt like we had the property to ourselves for the most of the time). I am planning to return next winter with colleagues for a writing retreat as the space would be great for that as well.

A low key guest, I look for a place that's cozy, comfortable and quiet where I can rest easy and wake up ready to take flight. I consider Airbnb to be a little life adventure, and I look forward to getting to know new folks and new places. My first name is Virginia, but I go by my middle name which is Tayloe.
