About this listing

This is a lovely, quiet apartment, totally renovated and with new appliances, with a new $10,000 AC system in the heart of Florence. 50 m. from the Boboli Gardens, next door to the Pitti Palace. It's on the non-touristy side of the Arno full of artisans workshops, cafés, small boutiques and markets. And yet you can walk to the Arno river in less than 10 minutes.
Fastest wi-fi available in Italy. A superb Yamaha C2 grand piano and a big library with guidebooks, dvds and sheet music.

The space

It consists of an entrance and living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a table for four, two bedrooms (one with a C2 grand piano), two bathrooms and a closet room, central heating, telephone, washer, TV with VCR & DVD player, stereo, dishwasher, microwave, hi-speed we-fi internet and insect screens on the windows. My wife and I came to Italy in 1973, when I began work as a photographer. Our pianist/composer son, William, who was born and raised in Italy, lived in this flat a couple of years before deciding to seek his fortune back in the U.S.A.

Florence needs no introduction. Suffice it to say that Unesco (the cultural branch of the United Nations) did a study 15 years ago which declared that 60% of the world's artistic heritage is on Italian soil. 30% of that is in Florence alone.

Guest access

You will be so happy not to be living in the middle of the mobs of tourists and selfie-stick vendors, but in the lively Oltrarno neighborhood with daily markets, little boutiques and cafés.
There is a great collection of books, records, guide books, dvds, vhs for your entertainment.

Interaction with guests

We live very close to the apartment and are here to offer help and advice to make your stay as wonderful as you've dreamed of. We are new to Airbnb, so please look at all the 5 star reviews we have received on Home Away listing 224128.

Other things to note

You will find a great fruit store just across the street, one of the best butchers in the city on the corner, a bakery 100 meters away where they also make pizzas and one of the best pastry makers in the city just 5 min. walk from your door.
The new Florence municipal tax requires guests to pay € 2.50 per night per person to a maximum of 7 nights. This will be requested on arrival.

If you want a home away from home in a brilliant location, look no further. We stayed at George's place as part of a tour of southern Europe and our welcome by George felt like we were meeting an old friend. The apartment has a similar vibe and I had some of the soundest nights' sleep of the entire holiday here. If you don't want to stay right in the centre, but be very close - the apartment is very close to Pitti Palace, and minutes to Ponte Vecchio - and prefer the feeling of being in a neighbourhood, you may even love George's place as much as we did.

Nice, clean apartment in a great location - close to city center (walking distance to everything) but still a genuine neighborhood with not so many tourists. Lots of nice restaurants, bars, cafes and shops close nearby. For the serious musician: apartment has a Yamaha grand piano in excellent condition. No elevator, stairs only. George (who is American) is a very friendly host, and the arrangements worked perfectly. Recommended!

George was very helpful and responsive throughout. The accommodation was quite spacious and conveniently located for visiting the historic centre. It has a pleasantly homely feel to it and fresh flowers were a lovely touch. For those wishing to self-cater, there are 2 supermarkets within walking distance. The Conad, just off ponte vecchio, is larger and more convenient if you are walking back from the centre. There are also smaller specialty shops. There are plenty of cooking utensils etc. For those wishing to use the central station, the number 11 bus stops a short distance from the apartment and takes about 15 minutes. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly use the apartment again. The stairs would make it difficult for anyone with mobility issues but we didn't have a problem upon arrival because George leapt up them like a mountain goat with a suitcase in either hand.

This was our second stay with George and Lynn and I wouldn't hesitate to return. We liked being in a less touristy area.

This is a beautiful and comfortable apartment in a quaint and richly artisan area of the city - and only minutes from the central attractions. George and Lynn are kind and supportive and attentive hosts and really, overall, I can't imagine anyone not enjoying the most perfect stay here.

We were in communication with George back-and-forth before our arrival. He was very gracious to greet us at the entrance of the building. He was very thorough in explaining everything about the apartment, very kind and patient. We were really impressed with this place, it looks so much better in person, the pictures do not do it justice! The location was absolutely perfect: A straight shot to the Ponte Vecchio, very close to grocery stores and minimarts, a stone-throw to the Palazzo Pitti. We had everything we needed: a very comfortable bed, very clean bathroom with perfect towels, safety and comfort. there was also a laundry machine (phew). We did not cook but we had everything we needed in the kitchen. It was a true home. The water pressure can be spotty, but a huge plus was the efficient air conditioner. We were so pleased with everything in this apartment! I can't wait to come back to Florence and I hope the apartment will be available for us to stay again!! Thank you George you're the best!

George User ProfileGeorge is a superhost.

My wife, Lynn, and I moved to Italy way back in 1973 after graduating from Beloit College in Wisconsin, where we met. I'm a photographer and Lynn teaches English. My mother is Italian and
I have lots of relatives here. We have two children, William, a pianist/composer who lives in NYC and Alice, a contemporary dancer who lives in London.
Both Lynn and I studied English Literature and we still love to read poetry and novels. We love all kinds of music (especially our son's jazz compositions), dance (especially our daughter's), cinema and good food.
Lynn is a remarkable chef.
We have rented for years and many of our guests have returned to our very special house.
