This is a story about a little lake called Heiress. Perched at the furthest end of East Heiress was an empty multi-acre lot save for an old Hunter's shack. We replaced the shack with this log beauty and look forward to many years of memories.

The space

For 11 years, my wife and I have coached the women's college tennis team at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. This job is AWESOME! But it takes away from Spring and Fall weekends at the cottage because that's when our competitions happen.
So, instead of having the cottage sit idle from March 1 to May 1st and from Sept. 1 until Oct. 20, we are looking to share it.
This house will make you feel relaxed the moment you walk in. The extremely private setting puts you in the Northwoods mood right away. The lake - a mere 30 acres - runs 52 feet deep and is spring fed.
We have canoes, paddleboats, kayaks, and a great dock for swimming. 50 feet out from our shoreline the depth drops to 20 feet so the swimming is superb. Without a public boat landing, the fish don't know predators so they come right up to you while you're in the water.
As for the cabin itself, we took great pride in building a new home that maintained unique character elements. The beams that hang across the great room are from an old 1850's Iowa barn and the five different species of reclaimed wood under your feet all maintain their own stories.
The first floor master bedroom and bathroom is cozy with a walk out hot tub deck that overlooks what will someday be the tennis court.
Groups will gather in the kitchen, dining and great room on the main floor with it's open concept and warm tones from the various woods used in construction.
A second bedroom with a full bath is tucked behind the dining room.
Upstairs in the loft, two separate rooms are where the kiddos go, one with a twin/full bunk and the other with a single queen. If we keep popping them out, we may need to shift the beds but for now, we're happy. Between the bedrooms is a common area for movie watching and game playing and a full bathroom.

Paul sent us an email with all the information about cabin, surrounding area and all the activities we could possibly be interested in. His responses to our questions were prompt and thorough. Paul is very enthusiastic about the cabin, and he made us feel welcome there. The cabin is great. The lake and the neighborhood are beautiful. Paul even took us on the boat ride on the lake. It was one of the best lake vacations we've ever had, and we would not hesitate to go there again. Paul, thank you very much for your hospitality.

The cabin was beautiful and very accommodating. There was a lot of work put into the house and surrounding and a lot of great memories were made. The owner was very helpful from early on and throughout the trip.

We spent the 2015 Christmas holiday at Paul's cabin and the entire experience was awesome. This may be called a cabin, but it is by far the most comfortable home away from home I've ever experienced. It was meticulous, secluded, and no expense was spared in building this place. If you are looking for peace and quiet you wont be disappointed here! The lake was obviously frozen yet beautiful. Lots of woods for hiking and exploring. The cabin has a gorgeous kitchen, warm and inviting family room, and hot tub off of the main bedroom. Lots and lots of large windows and beautiful views throughout. All appliances (including washer and dryer) are brand new. We had eight in our group and the home had more than enough space to accommodate us. The lower level is unfinished, but ample space for pool and ping pong. We also spent many hours at the bonfire pit just below the main living room window. The wood craftsmanship throughout was stunning. Paul had everything ready prior to our arrival, including a small Christmas tree in the living room! The place was move-in ready so there was no need for Paul to greet us on arrival. He was only a text away if we needed him which was very comforting to know, and he regularly checked in to be sure we were satisfied. There was one small issue with the propane tank early in our stay and Paul's response was immediate and problem solved. I was concerned that my teenage kids would get bored but they had the time of their life! In closing, I'm coming back!

The Cabin was great! My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon, Paul was good at communicating with us and very flexible in scheduling as we had a unexpected things to deal with back home before we left. He was very welcoming, he even left us a bottle of wine to enjoy for the week and a hand written note! We loved staying at his cabin, and would certainly love to be back in the future. If your looking for a great relaxing get away in the woods, this it it. It was a privilege to enjoy such a nice place for a week.

We had an awesome family vacation at the cabin. Paul's recommendations were spot on, and was very accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a quiet get away in the north woods.
